Kiroro & Asahidake?????

Who’s been, what ya opinion, what are the positives and negatives?????

I’ve read about the piste bein relatively flat for fair distances, so I’m lookin to go bush!!!!! Accessibility easy, or Guide recommended?????

I’m lookin at addin these two in when I go Japowdering in 2015, but they’re not locked in concreto as yet!!!!!

Also, has anyone flown Asahikawa > Tokyo????? Who with, any unforeseen probs?????

Haven’t been to either but keen to hear any input as I suspect my next Japan trip will be a self driving tour around Hokkaido.

I did read a long TR a couple of years back on the other forum where a guy did something very similar stopping at a bunch of resorts I hadn’t heard of at the time.

I would love go to Asahidake… on my hit list.
From what I hear, it is basically a back country resort.
There are a couple of groomed trails, but the rest is hiking.
And I would say, you would need to have avi gear.
I have flown to Asahidawa from Tokyo before.
We went JAL & flew out of Haneda.
The only problem was on the return leg, because Tokyo was experiencing cyclonic winds, all the planes were delayed.
Ours was delayed by about 5 hours… and unfortunately all the announcements were in Japanese, so we had no idea of when our plane was leaving, and waiting around the gates nursing a massive massive massive hangover wasn’t pleasant.

I’ll try my hardest not to get a hangover!!!!!

Any recommendations for food, izakayas in Asahikawa, Oji?????

What carrier did ya use, Oji?????

Was it a code share, or did ya book it desperately yourself?????

We used Qantas return to Tokyo, and JAL return to Asahidake.
I am not sure about code share, and it was a mate who booked.
In Asahikawa, there are Izakaya’s/Restaurants everywhere, but not many have English menu’s.
The only one I can think of that did was the beer factory. (Not far from the station)
There is also a bar called the Den, which was owned by an Aussie guy, but I don’t think he is there any more.
Great place for a beer & hanging out with the locals.

So the big carriers fly from Asahikawa, good to know!!!!!

Yeah, I’ve been suss in out a few places to consume copious amounts of both the local sake, along with the famed soy ramen!!!!!

We will be doin a couple of nights in Asahikawa to end the trip!!!!!

Maybe I should make it more????? 

The local ski hill at Asahikawa is fun to visit (Kamui) especially on a powder day.
They don’t really have an off piste rule, so you can pretty much go anywhere you want.
Just watch it, as you may end up in a gully and need to climb out.
Easy to get to from the city… you can get a return bus & day lift ticket for 3000 yen (that price is going back about 6 years, so it may have increased by now)
