New Zealand 2014

The snow bus is a pretty good alternative option. There is one that leaves from Queenstown to coronet peak or remarkables for $15 return a day. Buses run pretty regularly in the mornings and we never really had to wait too long. Buses back into Queenstown start at 2pm or there abouts if I recall correctly. Can’t tell you much about getting to wanaka or the cardrona bus cos we didn’t get that far!

We have 2 4WD’s and are staying in Queenstown this August. Any suggestions on how they may be put to best use? Chasing good snow and terrain to ride is my main objective. Done the site-seeing last 2 trips.

Drive to the snow resorts?!
Unless you are referring to going 4wding…

TC on a powder day is a must, maybe check out some club fields?

Ha ha! Yeah fair enough. Sounds like a random thing to ask but I read on another thread someone said if you have a 4WD there are some sick spots to be had or something to that effect but it was never expanded upon and I can’t find it now.

I’ll just be quiet and stick to the ski resorts red face

Haha

We took our 4wd for spin on a track halfway up the snowpark road a few years ago, but thats closed now.

No idea about any secret spots though,

Sweet FA snow in NZ at the moment but still excited to be heading there for my first time tomorrow. I’ve been working on a driving itinerary that should keep me busy on and off the slopes.

Sat 28: Arrive Christchurch in the afternoon, pickup van, find campgrounds grab some supplies/dinner.
Sun 29: Explore Christchurch (CBD, farmers markets, Re:Start, any other must do’s?) When finished head to Akaroa (not sure what I’ll actually do there yet other than look around?) and stay the night.
Mon 30: Drive/Stay in Lake Tekapo (skate, hot springs, stargazing)
Tues 1: Drive to Mount Cook (hopefully do Hooker Valley Walk if not drive to see Tasman Glacier) Stay the night in Mt Cook
Wed 2: Depart Mt Cook to Wanaka via Lake Pukaki? (Start using Treble cone pass and hopefully do Rob Roy Track)
Thu 3: Wanaka
Fri 4: Wanaka
Sat 5: Wanaka
Sun 6: Wanaka
Mon 7: Depart Wanaka to Te Anau via Lake Wakatipu (glow worm caves)
Tue 8: Drive to Milford Sound (Do Kayak tour and maybe walk around exploring after?) If Milford Sound isn’t accessible due to weather look into Doubtful Sound stay the night in Te Anau
Wed 9: Depart Te Anau to Queenstown (Eat lots of Fergburger, Glenorchy, Arrowtown, QT Gondola)
Thu 10: Queenstown
Fri 11: Queenstown (Possible night snowboard at Coronet Peak)
Sat 12: Queenstown (Possible night snowboard at Coronet Peak)
Sun 13: Depart Queenstown to Sydney

So how’s that looking for planning and activities, anything obvious missed? Also accepting any food recommendations for the places I’ll be in.

Sounds awesome! Make sure you try out Fergbaker next door to Fergburger as well. They make the best pies I have ever eaten!!
