Reminds me of genetically modified foods that you can’t use the seeds from to grow.
Fortunately these GM foods were taken out of the market after a few years, tomatoes were a biggy.

This is why I have a vege patch at home and don’t mind losing much of my crop to insects etc.

I currently don’t grow potatoes but have done in the past.
The way I grew them was:
- Peel my store bought potatoes with a knife (so the peel was thick) and plant the peel or cut a chunk off the potato for planting or plant whole old potatoes.
- Put them in an old car tire, as they grew I would add soil and another tire.
- After 3 or 4 tires, slide out the bottom tire after pulling some wire through to separate from the tires above.
- The inside of the tire wall would be full of potatoes.
- Let the process continue.
(much better than having to dig up you potatoes from the ground)

My favorite type of potato is “Desire”. They taste much better than any other potato!
