The Line Up - Daily Chat :)

I’m trying to work it out myself. From what I’ve seen on the mountain, most people have maybe up to 1 metre. The longer it is, the harder it would be to ride with, but you still need enough angle to capture enough imagery. Maybe do some test filming; attach it to different lengths up the pole and see what kind of angle you’re getting?

EDIT: Once you’ve done that, let me know.  LOL

I see a big problem with your pole Mizu; Your wrist is going to get mighty sore with the weight of the GoPro on the end and lack of ergonomic handle. It might be ok for a run but after some consistent use….

Rider is pretty spot on with his statement. The longer the pole the better but it becomes awkward. I found with a counter weight it makes a longer pole much much more useable.

Here are some of my polecams:
On the right is my favorite; It has become shorter over it’s life.
The grip has been put on backwards and on the wrong end of the pole with the end cut off the grip so it slides up giving me counter weight, or a place to add weight - notice the velcro.
It’s bent to place the cam at an angle instead of straight off the pole keeping the pole out of shot and enabling a shorter pole to get the shot right while holding it comfortably.
Notice how three of the poles are a similar length. (These aren’t using GoPro)
Bent pole 505mm from handle.
Black 815mm (total length)
The red Leki is a racing pole and the bend is manufactured into it.
My mounts slide and rotate so I can change the angle and position for any shot, even while boarding.

The Gold Pole is a twist and extend adjustable ski pole and it is the basis of what a comercial Polecam will be.
Here it is extended.

So $50 is an acceptable price for a quickpod?

Still think it will wreck your wrist with a straight grip.

Well, the photo has it laying on a queen bed - so almost the width of a queen bed long.

For my little light weight cameras the pole itself is almost enough. On a longer pole (the pole adding weight) I attach a pouch to hold the recording unit. the added weight also helps stabilise the whole thing.

Safety goggles - no, I wear snow goggles!

And if any of you are going to try to bend a ski pole - they snap because of how much force you have to use. That’s why mine has a series of small bends.

If you only have one pole don’t try to bend it unless you want it shorter.

See! you can break you pole by playing with it to much!!!

Your avatar looks like it could have hairy palms! Though I would be careful if I had those claws handling my pole!!!

Yeah it’s getting to the point where I need some help keeping the forums up to date with news and events. There’s so much going on in the world of snow/skate/surf, and so much going on behind the scenes with the site. So yeah, a welcome addition. Anyone working at Boardworld will be able to log in and post media releases sent to us, news, videos etc.

We’ve been trying to think of a good screen name for bw_media. Any ideas? or should we leave as is?
