A “chat” is defined as an informal conversation between two or more people. Therefore we chat “with” people, not “to” them.

Surely you can use “chat” instead of “talk”? You talk to someone but you can’t chat to them?

Just curious as it sounds OK to me.

Yeah mate, you’re correct that it’s possible to use “chat” instead of “talk”, but only in certain circumstances. You’re absolutely right, you can “talk to” someone but you can’t “chat to” them - because a “chat” by definition can’t be just one-way. If giving a lecture or speech, you’d use “talk to”, but if it’s a two-way conversation, technically it should be “talk with” or “chat with”. That’s because “to” implies singularity and “with” implies plurality.

The inappropriate use of “to” instead of “with” is really common these days, so it’s not that big of a deal. I was just surprised that someone calling themselves “AussieJourno” wouldn’t be aware of this - so I’m just doing my bit to improve the quality of journalism in this country.

Whats bloody wrong with welcoming someone into here ffs! No need bloody break down their post to ridicule! I wouldnt post again either.
Who cares if he only posts once and then talks to us via pm? Isnt it better to ask for advice and info on a forum filled with people who are in the industry, snowboard lots and have a passion about it?
Better than going to a fly fishin forum to ask about action cams and then write a piece on the Leftard Fly Fishing Freeskiers who like to have an action cam while they take powder skies onto a rail and call it a frontside boardslide all while SHITTING THEIR PANTS!
No need for the bullshit.

I was wondering what was wrong with the OP. Seems like a most reasonable request. Obvious place to ask such questions.

I have seen some good use of “go pro” or whatever in fly fishing vids. The one where the fish eats mouse was awesome. smile

Perhaps the standard of journalism in Australia wouldn’t be so woefully dismal if ignorant, semi-literate cretins like some people posting in these forums weren’t so apathetic about the embarrassingly low standards of their local media?

I didn’t say anything to “AussieJourno” that any good editor wouldn’t have said.
