As I said in the Thredbo thread, here are my thoughts…

—————————-

Stupid place for a new chair though? It’s cutting out 1 short tee? and the lines at the Kosi express are never that long? This is just trying to beat Perisher with the highest chairlifted point…

Personally, I would have preferred a new chair that went from skiers left of the cruiser area up to the top of where the one hit wonder is (opening new terrain) or from village terminal to somewhere between Antons or Sponars.

Village upgrade is nice as always though.

Good stuff, they must have heard me and my diva tendencies were coming!

After seeing barely any of the mountain I vote that they put a chair in that pesky out of bounds area skiers left of the cruiser! shut eye

After assessing the terrain from the chair at the shred I’m pretty excited to hit it next season with hopefully more snow. Maybe they could put a bit more money into snowmaking as there was a number of times this season Perisher was making snow and Thredbo wasn’t (and the conditions looked good to go)

Agreed on that location Dave. Even a t-bar out there opens up a ton of terrain.

The issue for Thredbo is that their lowest points can be too warm or not the right conditions for snow making. So while Perisher is pumping away at 1600m, Thredbo would ruin their snow at 1300.

Well this is cool. I always like to see resorts expanding and doing well. Although sometimes I question how they choose to spend their dough.
- Thredbo builds and new chair at it’s highest point and village gets a facelift - Win
- Is any of this money going into snowmaking? Really? - Not so much.

- Perisher builds a new chair in Guthega - Win
- Of all the frickin places that could use a chair!!! Why Guthega? - Not so much.

Either way, I don’t own them, so I’m just happy for any improvements shaka

PS. Still praying for snow making in smiggins!!!

Yeah I don’t know why they didn’t turn that guthega chair around and run it straight out to Twynam ha ha ha!

big surprise
This plan for a chairlift running to Karels has been thrown about for MANY years (I deduct it’s since they took on their lease over 50 years ago - since the leased area is bigger than what is currently accessible via lifts).

THIS IDEA IS GREAT!!!
question  BUT WILL IT HAPPEN question
Personally I see this media release as an attempt to attract more visitors, they announced the same thing last year at this time, and the year before (with the added snowmaking on Eagles Way - now complete)
I will be surprised if all these plans come to fruition before I qualify for a pensioners pass mizu
The headline says “...to attract more visitors”

It would open up chairlift access to…
nutjob  nutjob GOLF COURSE BOWL nutjob  nutjob
and BALLS TO THE WALL (steepest in resort run in Australia).
and FUNNEL WEB (including Trapdoor) - Steepest Groomed Run in Australia
I’ve only ever ridden it once groomed.

The idea is that they will eventually run a T-bar or chair to SIGNATURE.
Which has some of sickest terrain and is already in the resorts leased area (despite what wikiski says “boarders the leased area”).

Thredbo also has the highest in resort terrain and the largest and best snowmaking operation in THE WORLD!!!

I don’t see that they are trying to beat Perisher.
Thredbo only boast about the highest lifted point and longest run. Could it be that Thredbo are actually modest about how much they are “better than anyone” - It’s my (and many others) opinion they are!

The area above Crusier (Waimea) is accessible via Antons already, 75% of the time when I traverse across Central Spur to Cruiser Area I drop into Waimea - accessed via Antons. It’s a sick pow bowl and would hate to see it trashed because of obvious access by everyone coming up Cruiser.
If they still built the half pipe there I would agree that a T or rope tow would be the go. It’s only a 5-10min hike from top Cruiser anyway so a chair lift there would be a waste.

New Chair. New Village. What about Staff Accommodation on hill?

Keep the money in the local businesses and don’t have to see staff driving down after bar shifts at 4am…

Pretty sure they do have some Staff Accom already, but it’s mainly aimed at couples that want to steer clear of the Jindy Lifestyle!!!!!

The only staff accom is a bit in the hotel and above the VT terminal building. It is more for snowmakers and night shift staff.

There are some great ideas in this thread but everyone is forgetting that resorts can’t just do what they want they are subject to NPWS and planning departments (which includes increasing bed count in the village!).

The new chairlift in thredbo’s red tape is eased by using existing chairlift lines.

Putting chairlift higher… extending them (cruiser area) or swapping them in central spur are all things that are affected by wind.

How pissed would you be if they extended the cruiser chairlift and then it was on wind hold more often than not? Or if they got rid of the central spur tbars… same thing.

I can’t speak for all of Thredbo staff housing cause I’ve only seen one room. But it was pretty damn small.
It was a tiny little triangle room with 3 beds. Even the 3 bed accom on hill at smiggins has a bit of space for peoples stuff.
I could imagine room mates ending up hating each other up there.

But hey, we are staff. You can’t make more money by treating your staff better. Or can you?

^ Not for KT staff unless it’s self sourced.

KT are going to create more staff accom.
It’s been mentioned a few times this season.
I feel the first staff to gain from this will be instructors since they were told about it at a staff meeting!

Pretty sure that KT run it through one of the local Real Estates in Jindy (Or they used to), and there’s a couple of options in the village!!!!!

Nothin flash mind you, but when both my daughters worked for KT, there was a few that opted to stay on mountain away from the Jindy Party Scene!!!!!

Next time I see my girls, I’ll ask em which places were available!!!!!

* I was even contemplatin buyin one of the places that was used!!!!! Jack somethin????? Not far from the Supermarket!!!!!

Avatar

Pre: 2003 that was the case.

Be glad you didn’t buy into Happy Jacks - there’s a reason it’s the cheapest place in Thredbo. wink
After consideration I turned down buying it for $90K only a few years ago.
