The plastic revolution. The crazy thing is that there is tiny tiny little pieces of plastic in the water everywhere now (much of it too small to see easily). You take a sample of water in the ocean and you will get plastic.

Thats disgusting.
I remember back n the day Kuta beach looked like this.

When I last surfed at Kuta (7 years ago) it was like this. Every paddle i’d take would result in rubbish on my hands.

Surf was pumping though so I put up with it.

Yeah not sure of the surf but the beach in Kuta was pretty terrible. (about 15 years ago)

Its why i would not go there again.

My parents average a trip every one or two years and the stay near Sanua (Sp???) Nearby but away from the mess.

*Sanur* - its much much nicer around there, if I go back to Bali it would be to Sanur, or I’d go to Lombok or something. I’d stay away from Kuta.

I couldn’t for the life of me think how to spell it!

Kuta beach is nothing like it used to be

Seriously when was it ever clean?

I was there when I was 17 (so like 17 years ago)

And you couldn’t walk on the beach for needles and condoms and other less threatening rubbish.

Like right now…

Yeah, the surf there is rubbish!!!!!

We were on Lombok, went to this little village to go for a surf. The locals charge all tourists/surfers a small entry fee and proudly proclaimed that they use the money to help improve the village, like the rubbish bins they’d bought to keep the place clean. We happily paid up.

Nek minut - high tide comes and they empty all the rubbish out of said bins into the ocean for the tide to take away!...so photos like that don’t surprise me even a little bit.

That is disgusting. I am honestly shocked how little respect some people have for the planet we call home. I feel even worse for our kids and grandkids. thumbsdown

It’s an absolute disgrace, and it’s not just in Indonesia though.

Google “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”. There’s a patch of garbage about the size of the state of NSW, just floating around the ocean.
