thanks heaps for the info! boardworld has been awesome with all the info
Yep, such a good community here and we all try to help when we can. Hope your season goes off without any hiccups and we all can have a blast!
Make sure to come back and post on the blog posts when you are over there with photos / videos or even just stories .
If you find anything out that’s not mentioned here, let us know so we can add it in and help future travellers!
@TJ how long did it take sun peaks to get back to you?
I re-applied when the jobs were released late last week (released 13th, I applied on the 15th). I got an email back from them on Monday at 8am. (3pm Sunday their time.)
My original email to them was on the 3rd August but I don’t know if that one counts.
Interview went well, standard questions like why do you want to go to Canada, why Sun Peaks, What’s a time where you went out of your way to help someone, What’s your worst quality, What’s your attendance like, Do you have your own gear.
I was straight up with him, I was one of the first he interviewed so that was good. He said that he had to hire about 50 people for the season and didn’t want people who were going over only to party. So keep your drinking habits to yourself and maybe make a comment on how you don’t want to be the guy who goes to work the next day and throws up lol.
why Sun Peaks,
Did you tell him that you actually made pros and cons list of a bunch of resorts and Sun Peaks came out on top?
They would have loved that!
Yep, and when he was asking if I had a visa / travel insurance / gear etc, I told him I posted a checklist onto the net so hopefully it will help future employees. He looked pretty impressed.
Like I said, I’m pretty sure I killed it. Just need to wait for him to come back to me with the offer next week and I’ll book everything.
thanks for the post at9
Got me thinking about what to do for october (providing everything works out) since the consensus is that usually you won’t start until november. Is it possible to maybe get a job in the interim then leave when you start work for the season?
I would say no as I said previously the place is a ghost town and business close down and force staff to go on holidays so getting hired for anything seems unlikely.
hey at9, thanks for the awesome post, was a good read. what advice would you give to someone who is arriving there in december? ive contacted heaaaaps of places trying to secure employment before I go but it seems you have to be there (in whistler) for this, and it cannot be done from abroad.
ive already secured accom in an 8 beddy so thats sorted, right across the highway from the village, should be sweet. only thing im stressed on is late arrival date and job, is there anyone you would advise to contact? or know someone who knows someone sort of thing? any info would be awesome! cheers!
There is a bit of hiring leading up to the Christmas new year rush so you can still get a job around then just be persistent and keep checking up after you drop off you CV. There’s always jobs going for dish pigs and housekeeping.
For anyone who might’ve been to the turkey sale, how much can you save?
There’s some really good stuff but you need to get there early. Last year you needed to already have your season pass for the first day but they never checked up on this. There’s a lot of soft goods around 50% off bindings and boots too. I scored a $450 goretex jacket for $50 so there are some awesome finds. I’m probably going to delay my roadtrip to go to it again. There’s also a massive swap meet where you can get 2nd hand stuff pretty cheap. I got my board there last year also.
thanks for the reply at9, well worth sticking around for the turkey sale as i have no gear.
I don’t plan on going anywhere in October unless i have my accommodation sorted, so still not too sure what i’ll be doing to bide my time.
Excited as! can’t wait for whistler to release their applications online for their job fair
Pick up a cheap skateboard or something… or go for runs. Nothing better to get a bit fitter before the season starts.
Make some friends, hit up the pubs, organise accom, check out the villiage, sleep in, sleep out lol
Plenty of stuff to do!
so still not too sure what i’ll be doing to bide my time.
That makes 3 of us! Maybe try and get some short term work in Vancouver.
Good luck trying to find work. I think the best you’ll get is a few days cash in hand at best. Mainly cause there will be others doing the same as you and employers generally don’t want to have someone for 3 weeks and then nothing!
Temp work is relatively easy to pick up!
Office admin type stuff, filing etc. Register with a few agencies and try your luck! It can’t hurt.
Also remember a lot of Hostels will offer free bed in exchange for work. At least that will save you some coin!
TJ you would be able to pick up short term work in your line of work.

Yeah, but I’ll be in Kamloops / SP not Vanc. And I have budgeted so I don’t need to do anything.
But at the same time, It might not be a bad idea to look and see what I can find . No rush at the moment, see how I feel when I get there.
The difference is also that I’ll have a job hopefully this week. So I will fly into Vanc on the 16th, get to SP around the 23rd (give a few more days in Vanc) then I got 2 weeks till I start training for the season. Not the same as some of these Whistler kids who have to be in Vanc at the end of September and will likely have 4+ weeks to go…
I know you don’t need to work.
But why say what you said above? Why discourage someone?
I was just saying to you that you would be able to find work (so why wouldn’t others!)
Maybe I was being a bit pessimistic… I guess I’m weighing up pros and cons of situations for myself and then projecting onto other people.
