thanks for the post at9
Got me thinking about what to do for october (providing everything works out) since the consensus is that usually you won’t start until november. Is it possible to maybe get a job in the interim then leave when you start work for the season?
@tracvks awesome you have your accommodation saughted as that’s the only thing that’s kinda freaking me out a little as i’ve decided from recommendations not to go with the pre season options.
after i secure my interview i think i might just book like 5 days in hi whistler or something then play it by ear, and move into staff accom in october

I was going to do that too, not too sure about staff accommodation as per some of the reviews all depends on how i go finding other accommodation etc. I might get some temp accommodation in the village to suffice whilst I check out other places for a more long term (which will be easier being closer).
Yep same. I don’t mind if its really dead for a bit, would be good to just get everything organised and sorted. Maybe do a bit of travel.
I’m on the precipice of buying my ticket for the 25 th of Sep, is that enough time to get SIN in Vanc and then get up to Whistler for the job fair?
from what i’ve heard the process is pretty quick and as you know whistler is pretty close to van 2-3hrs by bus and grey hound has regular services
@joy
i’m flying in on the 25th at this point, havent booked yet though. Getting my sin and all my gear and get to Whistler by the 27th for interviews
Yewwww. i assume ur going the air canada flight as well? so syked. i was thinking of holding off on the gear (unless u were just meaning cold weather gear) until i get a job and know im staying for the season. Is it a lot more expensive at whistler compared to vancouver?
edit: just booked my ticket! :D
@joy, if im going to canada, no way im not staying for the season
Joy, if you get a job with whistler, you’ll get discounts which should make it competitive. Otherwise, free shipping!
If you don’t get the job you want, look elsewhere! Pubs, hotels, shops all need staff
BAM!
Thank You For Applying to Sun Peaks Resort,
I have reviewed your resume and am interested in scheduling an interview. I am available Thursday to Monday from 1:00 – 3:30pm PST and would prefer to conduct the interview via Skype. If this doesn’t work for you please let me know and there may be alternate arrangements available. Pleae reply with a date and time that works best for you and your Skype ID.
If you have any questions please let me know,
So I asked for Thursday 2pm (which is 7am on Friday for me.)
Wish me luck
^^Good luck mate!
Still waiting on my Visa acceptance letter:(

Nice one mate, is that for the instructor role?
Awsome TJ good luck! Now if only Whistler would release their job fair applications we can all start applying
Curious about the gear scenario, as you mentioned discounts if you work for the mountain and i’m unsure of wether i buy stuff in vancouver or wait till whistler and check out the turkey sale in october?
For anyone who might’ve been to the turkey sale, how much can you save?

From here: http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/employment/frequently-asked-questions.aspx
I need to buy new ski/ snowboard gear when I arrive in Canada where is the best place?
As a Whistler Blackcomb staff member you will be entitled to discounts at the stores that are owned by the company (including Showcase Snowboards and Can-Ski). See second FAQ Tab for details on staff discounts. There will also be Staff Sales at the beginning of the season at those stores and more information will be available on those closer to the time through at the stores, our internal employee newsletter (The Messenger) or via posters that will be put up in Staff Housing and your workplaces.
and this:
25% off at all Whistler Blackcomb retail locations.(Please note that the discount percentage is off the full retail price of the item. No Staff Discount will be given on top of the sale price of an item.)
So $400 snowboard is $300 with the staff discount. Sales might save you more.
thanks heaps for the info! boardworld has been awesome with all the info
