Tool Thread

Avatar

A place where we can talk about tools, good, bad and ugly.

I love my tools, always adding to the collection smile

My most used tool, hand tool would be my Scissors.
In the power tool dept, I love my Hitachi impact screwdriver.

The best tools I have purchased / long lasting are my Sidchrome socket sets, 1/2 inch drive and 1/4. I bought them when I was an apprentice 23 odd years ago. Work perfectly after the thrashing, smashing and abuse they have received.

I really want to get a TIG welder so I can learn to weld aluminium shaka

LOL @ chucky

Grandfather was an engineer and fabricator for mining (contract work). When he died I inherited all his hand tools. I’ve struggled to break any of them. They’re all inscribed with his initials “BS” I get a laugh that they are bull shit good.

My cordless impact driver is one of my faves. Cheap Ozito $99.
Bought it to use as a starter for my nitro truck but its at my side for almost every job I do.

Middle top draw of my desk is for small, everyday tools. Granddads curved pointy nose pliers sit alongside a pair of forsepts I scored off stepdad, soldering iron, small screw drivers (including jewelers sized), multi grips and tweezers of various types.

Love my angle grinder.

My favorite tool box contains “The Enforcers”. Crow bar, 6 pound hammer, 36mm ring/open ender, various metal shaped bars and (the one that doesn’t fit in) a 8’ bar that I can’t bend no matter what I lever.

My car has two bolts that require 260pound tourque (36mm) I’ve lifted the car off the ground with The Boss to tighten it and broken a heap of 36mm sockets trying.

I have a ruckus skate tool that’s pretty cool.
its only plastic so you wouldn’t want to be doing any serious amounts of work with it but it folds down so its nice and compact in your pocket so it doesn’t jab you. good for a quick tune on the go.

I will take some photos of my real tools later

I get weird in hardware stores looking at tools, even stuff I really have no idea how to use and stuff I might need only once in a blue moon.  Still got a bit of my old plumbing gear floating around, oxy acetylene leads and regs, pipe benders, hand tools etc.  Then I have other tools from tech days, crimpers, pliers, wire strippers, soldering irons etc.  I bought a jigsaw and orbital sander a while back and also have a makita cordless and another electric drill.

I have quite a few sets of ratchets but they are mostly incomploete with bits missing, usually thanks to lending them out, very happy they are cheap and nasty or I would be seriously pissed.

If i walk out of a hardware store or bunnings empty handed i start twitching and get very edgy LOL

As a man you’ve failed if you walk out of a hardware store empty handed.

That twitchy feeling is your vagina growing.

Nothing to do with parts of anatomy. More to do with the possibilities of what those tools can do.

(Guys, reading some threads lately , oh so stereotypical Aussie male. Is this who you are? Time to lift your game)
