Advice on Union Contacts.

Avatar

I’ve decided I need a new set of bindings to go on my Capita Indoor Survival, and while looking around I’ve stumbled upon the Union Contacts.

Apart from the fact that they would look SWEET on my board, they seem to suit the Indoor Survival quite well. With the reduced contact points they look to be well suited to rockered (in my case flat/rockered) boards with flex.

The only thing I’m curious about are the highbacks. They have quite a bit of lateral flex in them for tweeking rails etc, but are supposed to maintain a fair amount of heel-toe response. Still, that flex is something I’m not used to, although I’m sure I’d get used to it.  I’m curious how well these binding would be suited to something like 70% all-mountain 30% park. I’m guessing that what most of my riding will be made up of. I’d like to practice buttering a fair bit this season also. Would these bindings suit that type of riding?

I guess I won’t know how much I’ll like these bindings until I ride them, and coming from a set of fairly stiff bindings, I’m kind of unsure about what to do.

Does anybody have any experience with these bindings, and can let me know what they think?

Stop worrying guys!  tongue laugh

Just having a look at the Union Forces. Looks as though they might be better suited.

Hey!

I have some Union bindings I like them. I used Burton Cartels before that which I also thought were good just a bit too big in size.

I recommend them I have these

contacts will be really soft. You don’t need to choose your bindings to help your ‘buttering’.
If you’re coming from a stiffer binding, consider the contact pro.
Forces are a great all around binding.
I tried the contact pros a number of times last season. They’re a great binding, but I much prefer the burton reflex base to the contact base (less responsive)

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback.

Gamblor, I did look at the contact pro, but I read somewhere that the 2013 Contact has a stiffer highback. Stiffer than the pro.

I think the Forces might be the way to go. The blue forces would also look pretty sweet on my board I think.

Cheers.

Forces are awesome, I’ve had mine for about 3 seasons now. Never had any issues with them. Like Gamblor said, they’re a really good all-rounder.

Thanks for the help guys.  shaka

good choice. you just have to keep an eye on your ankle strap bolts as they come loose

Second that. The bolts always come loose on mine (Contact Pro). Only lasted half a season last year then I sold it.

3rd that
union ankle straps are notorious for coming loose to the point they will fall off

Where were you guys BEFORE I bought them???  big surprise

Haha it’s all good. I’ll keep an eye on that. Is there a fix? Locktite or something?

Cheers for the info.

The bolt loosens every time you move your ankle strap, so loctite would stop your ankle strap from moving. The only fix is to return them and get burtons/ keep checking them before you ride

loctite is no-no

doesnt happen to every binding though
like for my contacts only seems to happen on my right binding
the left one seldom needs to be re-tightened

my mates forces…he seldom needs to re-tighten also

its not a bad routine to check your screws and bolts regardless of brand
though my flux’s do not require then the way the locking mechanism works smile

you can use loctite, but make sure its the blue one not the red one.
the red one is designed not to come off ever and the blue one is just so that it doesn’t rattle loose. you can put blue loctite on and not torque it down fully so that you still have movement.

That’s what I’ve read on a few different sites. Cheers for clearing it up.  thumbsup
