ft killing it
Just got home from a good day on the hill. I headed up early this morning and got a few quick runs in; the snow was heavy again but fresh lines were there for the taking. Then the crowds came… By 10:30, Emerald Chair had a big (20min+) lineup, so I thought I’d bomb down to Garbanzo. No luck there either, in fact it was the longest lineup I’ve ever seen there. I went up Garb and rode home.
Then I get a message from my buddy, finney. He told me Harmony and Peak were opening, so I got dressed, tried to forget about the massive lunch I ate, and headed back up the mountain and up to Peak. There wasn’t anyone at Red Chair and not that many at Peak Chair. The snow was pretty good. Did a quick run down Shale Slope while it was still fresh, then a run through Doom and Gloom. The snow was pretty heavy and a bit crusty but still worth the effort. Thanks for the heads up, finney!
Yeah the lift lines were pretty intense! I was up there for nearly 3 hours and managed 2 half runs and one big run… Couldn’t really escape the lines, but wasn’t through lack of trying! By the end (1pmish) the clouds came in and vis got real bad. Riding home on Blackcomb straight to the door is always so much fun though.
One of the bigger days I’ve had in the last month cause of my injured knee. Was a bit uncomfortable at times but did ok.
Awesome day… Headed up the Glacier express and just played around Jersey cream and to the left of the Glacier Express.
Go some nice soft stuff up the top and dropped through the trees lower down… my best day riding so far!!
Great stuff, Pyro!
Yeah Dan, the visibility was really bad on my final run down to Creekside, couldn’t see anything. I hope your knee keeps getting better mate.
Yeah I was riding without my goggles, which helped a bit. Heaps of people were just sitting on the run or going mega slow. I assume due to the vis but not entirely sure.
The Whistler Park edit is cool.
Thanks RE the knee. Yeah desperately want to get it better. It’s been so lame not being able to ride or even riding always worried it’s gonna break down. The one and only good thing is I’ve got a bit better at carving on nice even slopes (about the only terrain I’m comfortable on atm). Been able to just focus on my rhythm and getting those edges in. I’d be curious when we next ride if you could spot any part of my technique that could be improved to reduce impact on the front knee. So far I notice heel turns are a bit rough in choppy conditions and I slam my way through them, which doesn’t help at all.

This is so true for me. Once visibility got low and limited, I tend to go very slow because I can’t see the bumps on the run. It’s just all white to me. I see some people can charge down runs with low visibility and I can’t do that because I have to be able see the terrain and also where I’m going
Sometimes if its total white out and very windy I got vertigo and feel like I’m stationary and the mountain is moving (happened to me once) and I just sideslip my way down until the vertigo is gone.
Or maybe I just suck haha
Hey I definitely know what you mean - I go much slower too. And yeah sometimes I get that vertigo feeling too, if it’s real bad. If I know the run is nice and even/groomed, I can usually go at it with a bit more confidence though.
Mine are pink iridium. Which I think is an all rounder but more for low vis than sun.
RAIN, ARRRRRG
For some reason I decided to get up there for first lifts today. By the time I was at the top of Red I was absolutely soaked. It was raining from top to bottom. The cover was super heavy and wet, first run the snow actually felt like glue. No park today as you couldn’t get enough speed for the jumps.
That said I still got in seven or so decent runs. Caught up with finney for a couple before I decided to call it a day.
We need SNOW!
Respect to you rider for getting out today.
I looked out the window and slacked out completely.
I had fresh wax yesterday and it was still getting slow.
(Probably got spoiled with the sweet snow Wednesday and even Friday.
Crossing fingers and toes for that new snow that has a chance to come mid week!
Are you guys wearin goggles with a high vis lens????
Makes a HUGE difference!!!!
I use the original lens that comes with the Electric EG2 goggles which I think is bronze silver chrome. Want to buy a new lense for those foggy/whiteout days. What color do you suggest?
Yellow or rose is ideal for low light. Amber if you want something more versatile.

I’m a big fan of the yellow tint- really helps in whiteout conditions
Went up whistler today. Hit up harmony in the morning which is mostly frozen pow and bumpy snow. Moved to blackcomb at noon and the runs are pretty icy except for 7th heaven which still has some soft snow. Great day today even though it’s icy. Also got to try out some boards, Forum Youngblood Chillydog and Burton Sherlock.
