I find helmets more comfortable

You make just as much sense as me. You don’t wear a helmet for protection? Why the hell do you wear it? Because the cool kids have them on?

Wearing a beanie I get to hot, cap only works on perfect bluebird (but get to sweaty then cold). Helmets are just right for my sweaty brow.
Some of my fans give me hard time when I post vids and not worn a helmet.

I ride better without one but am more comfy with it.

They have saved me from many scratches and the odd concussion. Most effective on beginner runs when you catch heel edge and backslam.

hahah! Nice one. It’s hard to impress them fans all the time. I tell you what if your trying any thing with an upside down rotation in it, I would have a helmet on any day even if its not going to save my life. When in the back country it’s always a good idea.

saw this yesterday on Ballistyx’s facebook page, wow a 70m fall down a cliff face this kid must have some serious luck. So if I already wasn’t getting a helmet I definitely am now!

70m! Geez O.O

Look at the helmet looks like twisted metal.

yer it actually does, but still I recon falling 2 meters on your hear would look the same on the helmet. I’m just suprised that he didn’t kill himself landing on his head as I’m sure helmets aren’t tested for 70 meter drops. one lucky kid

Medical practitioners aren’t engineers, they aren’t qualified to say “the helmet saved their life”. It is a standard response since the more people that wear helmets the better.

Before anyone takes me as one that is against helmets, I’m not.
All I’m trying to point out is that they are most useful at low speeds, it’s then they save more lives and injury.
Any protection is better than none.

With the above post - I don’t believe a helmet would be the only factor that saves someone in a 70m fall.
Falling 70m, your travelling over 130kmh. The impact would be a X100+ survivable Gforces.

Throw a helmet at a semi on the freeway and see how it looks afterwards.

Totally respect that and your input in to the topic.

There would be millions of factors in which he survived the fall and maybe one of them is the helmet, well must have done some thing as his head is still together.

I like to put the odds in my favour when doing sport in which I can get brain damage or even die. The helmet might not do a thing on my 70m fall but if I catch a edge hit a rock that might stop the head trauma.

Yep.
Like I said earlier, taking a backslam going 2km was the most thankful I’ve ever been to be wearing a helmet.

While shooting pro ski racing I wear a helmet, it gets in the way but I’ve been taken out by to many skiers/boarders.

yer well said. There would of been a million factors in this and he definitely didn’t fall straight onto his head otherwise it would of been goodbye. But without the helmet i would of hated to see what he looked like.

I hope I never have to fall 70m let alone 5m down a cliff but for general protection to stop whiplash and concussion I will be wearing a helmet this year especially in NZ. still undecided on the protec classic snow or the red commander..

If someone threw me at a semi I’d probably opt to wear the helmet. Just incase it helps.

I just got a giro helmet. Took me ages as my head is the size of 2 blokes and also oddly shaped.
Probably got something to do with being taswedgian teacherboy

I got over bumping my head on the ground 2 or 3 times and ending up with a massive headache. One good bump can ruin your day.

A mate of mine is one concussion away from having to wear a helmet 24/7 of everyday life according to the doctor. The little bumps add up.

The bumps do add up. Thats what all the research says.

A friend of mine had a kid out from China who was a relative of his wife.  The kid somehow went backwards on the beginner’s slope at Buller, got tangled in a pole and fell onto rocks hitting his head.  Dead.

It’s crazy how injuries escalate. You see someone fall really heavy on rocks or anything and you think they are screwed, only for them to stand up dust themselves off and they are fine. Then you have the little falls that absolutely wreck them.

It comes down to dumb luck sometimes and the card your delt.
