I look terrible in helmets!

I think of it like this… no one looks hot in a helmet! You are in the majority nowadays with wearing one. Everyone looks the same.

I disagree, I think the helt-pro beanie can look pretty hot.

Actually I think she looks like a tool weaing a strap under her bennie….

I look okay in my helmet not done up - when i do it up ewwwww LOL

The strap is an evil nessecity!

Wear a facemask over the strap and go all gangsta!

I’m a big fan of RED helmets (brand, not colour haha). They are super light and low profile. Made with the rider in mind for sure. I’ve previously owned a couple of HiFi models (which is the lightest helmet on the market), and for the last couple of seasons I’ve been riding in the Mutiny II, which really rate highly.

Great looking stack hat! You have the one with a pattern?

Is the peak on the helmet to stop you from smashing your nose and face? Or is it for the goggles to stop the air from going in between?

I am going to buy a helmet this year, been looking around in the last few weeks for one. Never had a helmet but I did have a protec helmet for downhill mountain biking.

So I’m looking at getting either the: RED Commander helmet with audio force or the PROTEC classic snow with audio as well. I’m not a fan of the peak and these from what I have found are not too expensive, offer good protection and won’t make me look like a douche.

Anyone had any experience with either of these helmets?

I just have plain matte black model.

I get a super tight seal with my goggles.

The vent is actually under the peak, which you can open and close with a lever. This is one of the best features of the helmet in my opinion. There are no vents on the top of the helmet, so you stay dry even in the wettest conditions (who wants water dripping through on the top of their head?). The air comes through under the peak and circulates throughout the top of the helmet via the venting system. If it’s really cold, just shut the vent.

There was some research done that concluded that helmets don’t reduce the risk of injury, they increase it.
Will try and find the info.

Big bulky looking helmets do reduce neck injury by reducing neck hyperextension and whiplash, neck injury is the most common cause of serious injury on snow.

After reading a few articles, I see it this way.

At low speeds snow sport helmets can reduce the likely hood of injury because G forces are within the threshold of what our body can survive. Mostly in regard to concussion caused by impact.

At high speed; the difference between 25 Gforce and 300 Gforce is irrelevant - both will kill you and no snow sport helmet can reduce Gforces in an impact from 50kmh enough.

Helmets do prevent superficial injury like scratches and bruises - they also reduce the severity of neck hyperextension in a fall.

I find helmets more comfortable, I don’t wear it for safety or fashion. Unless I’m skiing through trees then it’s for the safety factor.

To get any real protection on snow we need to wear a motorbike helmet, neck brace and full impact gear. Then I will query the long term muscle and tendon damage caused to neck/spine by adding the extra weight to your head in a helmet that is effective to prevent severe injury.

bkrtron what made you think you can buy a helmet successfully online?
On BW, advice in this regard has been given many times. Even if you order the exact same size and model you’ve tried on you wont get the same fit.
Buy the helmet you put on your head in the store. And take your goggles to make sure they fit with no gaps.

The helmet fits fine but I have never worn one so it feels like a massive bubble on my head. My goggles fit fine in the helmet.

I knew of one girl (friend of my gf) who was on the free ride tour who impacted a rock which put her in coma for a few months now its all mental scaring because she doesn’t want to lose her life and might not ever get back to riding. The doctor advised that if the helmet wasn’t in place it would have been instant death.

If you take the study in to account it’s not different from people who use avalanche gear, because your more lucky to die from the impact of the snow any way…prevention is better than a cure. Even the smaller falls can impact your head less than 50km/h.

You make just as much sense as me. You don’t wear a helmet for protection? Why the hell do you wear it? Because the cool kids have them on?

They are made from foam, same as no 2 computer shaped surfboards are identical. The foam forms differently.
Sure it’s possible but I haven’t found it the case. I’ve gone for the same helmet in a different colour and found they feel very different.

Done this myself, great with a iPhone adapter with mic on jaw bone. Waiting until I can include 2way with phone - have used 2way with helmet set up plus earbuds for phone but all the cables get silly.

Wearing a beanie I get to hot, cap only works on perfect bluebird (but get to sweaty then cold). Helmets are just right for my sweaty brow.
Some of my fans give me hard time when I post vids and not worn a helmet.

I ride better without one but am more comfy with it.

They have saved me from many scratches and the odd concussion. Most effective on beginner runs when you catch heel edge and backslam.
