K2 Slayblade question

Hi All,

I was recently given a K2 slayblade for my birthday but i am having issues fitting bindings. I have flow bindings but the screws that came with the seem to have a different thread. I tried the screws from another set of bindings (force i think) but no luck.

I have been to a few board stores while driving around and they all keep telling me that binding screws are all the same only the length varys, so i bought another set but again the same issue.

Does anyone know if the slayblade uses some sort of different screw to most other boards? I have tried emailing K2 twice but so far have heard nothing. I also went to a fastener specialist but they couldn’t work out the thread type either. Any help would be appreciated!

k2 uses regular screws. I’ve never had a problem using burton screws

That’s really weird. Try without the bindings. Do the screws go into the thread OK?

Yeah i have tried without the bindings but no luck. It seems like the size is right but the thread is different.

Is that the problem with all the threads or just a few? Is it a brand new board? Where was the snowboard purchased from? You said you tried with new screws as well, so that rules out stripped screw threads. If the board is new, I would definitely take it back to where it was purchased and get them to see what’s wrong. If the board isn’t new, I guess it could be rust or perhaps stripped threads in the snowboard. Please give us more info so we can advise you.

Yeah the problem is with all threads. It is new but was purchased in the US so it’s going to be a bit of a mission to get it swapped, thats why i just wanted to check it wasnt just me being dumb! Guess i better get that ball rolling if i’m any chance of getting any use out of it this season.

Bones is my little brother and I know he’s not online today, so I’ll answer your questions for him. 

The problem is the same for all holes, so it definitely seems to be a problem with the inserts. The board is brand new, but unfortunately his g/f bought it for him online (don’t know if you remember me asking for board avice on her behalf a few threads down) so i’m 99% sure it came from o/s,

That’s the problem he has. If he sends the board back where it came from, it’ll end up being a costly and timely exercise. I think he wants to make sure there’s definitely a problem with it, and that it’s not just a hardware compatibility problem before he goes to the trouble.

I think that’s why he’s been trying to email K2, but had no response.

That’s a tough one. I would suggest taking the board in to your local snowboard store and see if they have any standard screws that actually fit. Try as many screws as you can to see if any work. If they don’t, I think you can put it down to a manufacturing defect.

Unfortunately, that is one of the main problems when buying from overseas. It voids your warranty and makes it very hard to get any support from the stores/brands in Australia. I know you guys know this, but I am mentioning it here just to highlight the fact for anyone else reading this thread.

Hey bones, are the bolts (technically, they’re not “screws”) you’re using brand new, and have a groove in them with a hard gel like substance in it? If so, sometimes these can be troublesome seating themselves at first - so try them without the bindings initially. If that’s no good, test the threads out with a standard “M6” bolt from a hardware store - and while you’re at it, test your binding bolts out with a standard “M6” nut.

I have had no issue with sending boards back OS for defects. Warranty was upheld, They paid for all shipping etc. and i was not out of pocket for anything.

Contact them mate.

Sure, contact them for warranty - IF you’re certain it’s actually a warranty issue. If not, you’re going to be out of pocket, and the source of great amusement in the K2 warranty department.

Of course, i should have elaborated on that.

I have tried other m6 bolts and they wont fit either. I got a response from the place it was purchased and they have asked me to send some photos. Not too sure if a photo will show much but i’ll see how it goes.

Please let us know how you go. I think your best bet is dealing directly with the store you purchased the board from. Wouldn’t hurt contacting K2 Snowboards as well; maybe this is a known manufacturing defect.

Yeah will do. Hopefully i’ll get it sorted in time to take it for a run this season!
