Demoed 2 boards today. Here’s some really short impressions of what I think about the boards. By no means this is a review since I only got 1 run on it.
I took out 155 Salomon Villain and my buddy tried a fish, we swapped boards after 1 run. The villain is a soft, I would say park board, but I think it might be marketed as an all mountain freestyle board. The edges were dull on that thing, couldn’t even carve. When my friend tried it he slipped out like 3 times. The board was pretty fun overall, it has Salomon’s rock out camber which is camber past the bindings but when you weight the board the tip and tail rockered up. I think I’m pretty sure I cannot ride a soft board if they have rocker tip and tail, ollieing felt weird, like I was going to slip out on the tail. The board is very light too.
The other board is 160 Burton Fish. Now this board is AWESOME! I freakin love this board. Carves and holds and edge super good. Didn’t feel like a tapered board for some reason. It’s very poppy too. I didn’t put much effort on popping off rollers and side hits but this thing can boost just by the little effort that I did. I would ride this as my everyday board, which some of you may find weird. Was gonna try some small jumps with the Fish but the stance angle is just not comfortable for me. I just don’t get when people say “Oh the fish is gonna be terrible on hard pack, bla bla bla (even the demo guy said this)”, this board is awesome. Easily takes the cake for my favorite board along with my PYL.
What were the snow conditions like, skip?????
Some icy spots but mostly hardpacked/frozen granular (not too sure what to categorize the snow as haha, I gues it’s not really hardpack, but it’s not soft either) when I demoed the board. Kinda like early morning spring conditions.
Be good to see what ya thought about the Fish if it had been some fresh pow?????
Interesting. I’m surprised how much you liked the Fish on hard pack. Sounds awesome! Like Mizu said, be cool to see it in pow.
Ya too bad we don’t have anymore pow =(. I’m sure I will love it.
I have a friend with the Fish and he said the same as you skip!

Isn’t there a pro rider who competes in Slopestyle on the Fish?
@andy: Stephan Maurer. He’s riding the Juice Wagon now, it’s his “pro model”.
when you weight the fish on hardpack, the s-rocker pops the nose up and you don’t get so much taper, and it rides like a regular, albeit very short board
@gamblor: I see, that explains it then. I agree, it felt like a shorter board than it’s length for sure.
