Eh, before you leave… You’ll get an extra $100-200 now unless you plan to keep it.
Since the 360 has come out, my original xbox hasn’t even been plugged in, I don’t even know why I still have it.
If I had a SNES, cool but the xbox is so in the middle and the graphics aren’t nostalgic to keep it etc.
Hey guys, looking at housing and trying to figure if we should go for 5 or 6 month contract, starting Nov 3. Does the Whistler winter normally run til end of April or would we be fine for 5 months?
the season depending on the conditions can go until mid may
Sign a 5 month contract and extend it at the end if you need.
Most land lords would be crazy to not give it to you for that extra month (free money?) or find somewhere else.
If you lose your jobs early or the snow stops falling and it gets warm, you also have the option to bail if you want.
Is there a price difference?
Am guessing they will charge you slightly more for the 5mths?
If not than yeah do 5mths and extend!
Yeh, cheaper to do the full 6 months. Considering rideonwhistler, seems a bit pricy so tossing up whether to just wing it and hope to find something when we arrive or to book it in now so we’ve at least go that sorted, and then apply for some jobs this week, as well as when we get there mid-Oct.
Now just having a serious think about things and maybe we’ll go to Big White instead of Whistler…then go to Whistler for summer (and let’s be honest probably stay for another winter ). So indecisive…but so excited!
I would go to Whistler for the job fair still.
Then go check out Big White. Keep your options open I say!
Choose after you have been and looked around both resorts.
Have you read TJ’s massive thread on the pros and cons of a few resorts?
Yeah I’m probably going to try at the job fair and then maybe go somewhere else if I get the option. It’s probably likely that Whis jobs won’t start on opening day so probably easy enough to get out and about if you want to.
You can always bail on a job if you want something else.
Those companies just seem like an expensive way of taking your money for something you can do yourself.
If you’re not set on Whistler, then probably better to just start applying on all the websites of the mountains when you can. (prolly August)
We’re travelling before we get to Canada so can’t make it to the job fair otherwise we’d definitely be doing that (apart from the one at start of Nov which sounds like it’s kind of the reject part time jobs haha). Getting to Vancouver on 9 Oct and got accommodation there til the 14th when we plan to head out to wherever we decide we want to find work! After checking our your info TJ, Sunpeaks is looking pretty good. Gonna have a look at them all, see what we like and see how we go. We know we want to be in Canada for at least a year so sure we’ll get to Whistler at one point.
Yeah thats it. I really like Sun Peaks and Silver Star.
Fernie looks awesome too but I kind of want to live on the mountain (I don’t like buses) hahaha. I know it’s only 10-20 mins each way on the shuttle and housing looks way better priced (1/2 the staff accom on the other mountains!) when you get a few rooms and split the costs.
If you do go to one of the other mountains, make sure to try and keep a bit of a blog on here so we can all see photos, videos and stories . If you guys end up at the same place as me, I’ll be more than happy to help you out learning to snowboard if you like (I think you said you were beginners?) and we’ll definitely have to hit up a pub feed and make friends with other seasonal workers!
Yeah they both look great so going to look into them more. Same thing put me off with Fernie lol! Will definitely try to keep a blog going on here (my boyfriend and I are photographers so there’s definitely not going to be a shortage of photos!! We were looking into working as photographers in Whistler…). Yep, both never seen snow before so definitely beginners so that would be awesome!! Always up for a pub feed too and would love to meet some people when we arrive!
Easy done. Just go over with an open mind and a tough body… You will be in pain for the first few tries and then just keep pushing yourself.
When I worked in 2009, I was pretty beginnerish but by the end of June (maybe 12 days on the mountain tops) I was able to keep up with the best of them. Mid July I had hit my first 20ft jump (to impress my bro and his friends) lol.
Slightly over a month of living in Jindy (about 2-3 days riding a week),
Haha awesome. I think I’m going to take a lot longer to get the hang of it than my partner…he can rollerblade and stuff and I really can’t at all…but I’m determined!
If you really think you’re going to struggle, get a few lessons (2-3) and maybe a private lesson.
If you get help from me (or another boarder you work with) still grab a lesson as these people do it for their job! I can only give you so much help till I probably teach bad habits I’ve picked up hahaha.
