Flow bindings on Burton Custom?

Avatar

Hi guys. Long time no speak!

I THINK I already know the answer to this question, but I’m still a little vague on it.

My brother’s g/f is buying him a new board for his birthday. She knows he’s been pretty keen on a Burton Custom Flying V, but he’s using Flow The Five bindings.

Can he use those bindings with a conversion plate? I seem to think he can, but I’m not 100%.

Also, if she looks at another board for him, what can I steer her towards? She’s getting it as a surprise for him, so personal prefence on his part doesn’t really come into it. All she knows is that he’d like to move to a rockered or hybrid board, hence her going for the flyingV.

The other board she was looking at was a K2 Slayblade, but I don’t know a lot about them. Apart from it being a flat/rocker.

I know everybody raves about the Yes Basic, which I’ve told her to check out, but didn’t know what else to point her to.

FYI he currently has a cambered board at 158. He’s about 6’1 and 75kegs.

Any ideas about the bindings, or another board to point her towards?

Yeah mate, Flow sell ICS conversion plates, so it’s no worries there.

If a Burton Custom FV is what your bro is keen on, go for it - they’re a great choice for an all-rounder. Jez may be able to organise a BW discount through STM, so hit him up.

chucky is correct, you can get Flow M6 channel discs.

The Burton Custom Flying V is a very versatile board. If he likes this particular camber profile, I would also look at some of the Lib Tech boards.

If you are looking at YES boards, I would step up to the Greats (called the Asym for next season). Like above, a great performing all-rounder.

Do you know what size boots he wears?

Welcome back mate!!!!!

The Slayblade is a stiff Freeride board, so if a softer more all mountain stick is more his style, the Burton, or like Jez said The Greats!!!!!

At least with the YES board, there’ll be no need for the conversion discs!!!!!

Plus, with the CamRock profile, if he mainly rides here in Aussie conditions, I reckon it’s the better way to go anyways!!!!!

You guys are awesome.  dance

I Was pretty sure I was on the right track, but I knew you’d be able to confirm it for me.

I had already suggested that the K2 may have been a little on the stiffer side of what he was looking for. I’m pretty sure she’ll run with the Burton just knowing that he’s had his eye on it for quite some time, but i’ll make sure she check out the Greats before she does anything.

Jez, I’m pretty sure he’s a sz10 boot. What size should he be looking at? I think she was looking at a 156 or 158.

Thanks for the WB Miz! I’ll make sure I stick around this time!

Now that you’re married, you’ve got to experience most of your man-toy purchasing vicariously - so live it up mate!  tongue wink

With size 10 boots he will be fine on any of the boards mentioned above. I just wanted to make sure before suggesting a board.

Mizu raises a good point. Where will be be riding this board? Aus? Japan? Elsewhere? Definitely something to think about before deciding on the size.

I’m pretty sure most of his riding for the next year or two will be Aussie spring. I know he’d like to hit up NZ or Japow, but they just had a baby, so I’m tipping they’ll be staying local for a season or two.

I wouldn’t go past 156 in size. I think 156 will be a good versatile size. It really depends on his riding style though. Does he want to improve his freestyle skills and ride a bit of park? Either way, I don’t think he should be on anything bigger in Australia.

Awesome. Thanks Jez.

He’s a lot like me. He’ll spend the first few days on groomers before riding park for the last few days.

I’ll tell her to look for a Custom V 156.

Appreciate your help guys.  shaka
