1. What is your driving force to snowboard?
Apart from the stoke of snowboarding, one of the few activities we can do as a family, from grommet to teenagers and us old folk.
2. When learning tricks what is your motivation?
To have more fun
3. How did you become interested in snowboarding?
Skateboarded, saw snowboarding, gotta try it, fell in love, many years later, still shredding.
4. where do you think technology will lead the sport?
Lighter boards
5. does the xgames lead younger riders to try more dangerous tricks that they shouldn’t be trying?
I don’t think so, most riders progress as their skill never does. The ones that push too hard don’t ride that long because they are busted.
6. how does the media influence the sub culture of snowboarding
Don’t care, I go riding for me, not anyone else.
7. Are drugs rampant in the sport?
About as much anywhere else in society today.
1. What is your driving force to snowboard?
Landing tricks in the park and going fast.
2. When learning tricks what is your motivation?
The personal challenge and feeling of accomplishment.
3. How did you become interested in snowboarding?
Watching sb vids when I was a kid. Always skied, cool kids were making the transition to sbing.
4. where do you think technology will lead the sport?
Lighter gear and boards with more pop. Tech that makes sbing easier to learn.
5. does the xgames lead younger riders to try more dangerous tricks that they shouldn’t be trying?
Yes. More pressure to progress faster.
6. how does the media influence the sub culture of snowboarding
Directs the fashion.
7. are drugs rampant in the sport?
RE performance enhancing - no. All others - no diff to other sports.
FYI: Difficult questions to get good answers dude.
1. What is your driving force to snowboard?
Adrenaline, sharing the experience with friends and family of any ability.
2. When learning tricks what is your motivation?
Bordom, adrenalin rush
3. How did you become interested in snowboarding?
Skiing, surfing, skateboarding
4. where do you think technology will lead the sport?
Reduced cost, lighter materials
5. does the xgames lead younger riders to try more dangerous tricks that they shouldn’t be trying?
No
6. how does the media influence the sub culture of snowboarding
are drugs rampant in the sport?
Yes and yes.
The media only show the “face” of the sport, not the lifestyle and variety of people. Those influenced by the media soon realise it is misrepresenting the lifestyle.
Drugs are rampant in society both performance enhancing and recreational, they seem to be used in a functional manner within the snow lifestyle.
1. What is your driving force to snowboard?
Continue to have fun on the snow and winter is much more fun than this summer stuff.
2. When learning tricks what is your motivation?
I don’t learn tricks. Merely staying upright is challenge enough and as for riding a T-bar….
3. How did you become interested in snowboarding?
Family pressure, in a good way. They told me skiing was just not cool
4. where do you think technology will lead the sport?
Anything that brings in more $ for the big companies. Usually that means entry to intermediate level equipment that is easier to learn on.
5. does the xgames lead younger riders to try more dangerous tricks that they shouldn’t be trying?
No. i doubt young riders with any skill would try stuff just because of X Games. And a punter probably doesn’t know anything about X games anyway. Kids pretty mush no how to progress. Time on snow, and good coach.
6. how does the media influence the sub culture of snowboarding
Snowboarding companies dictate way more than media, and any company is only as good as their marketing department. The media has way too much say in calling a season “good” or “poor”, but snowboarders are always out there, with whatever snow there is.
7. are drugs rampant in the sport?
Are drugs rampant in society? No more no less. Performance enhancing drugs? Wouldn’t seem likely to me. It’s about the snow.
And… can we see your results sometime? Also, this is a pretty dedicated bunch of people, and probably not the standard “subculture” thing you are thinking it is. God luck
