Should I buy a Forester???

Avatar

I’ve found Ford to have decent interiors, even given their love of using cheap plastic. But they aren’t made to last.
NEVER own a +10yo Ford unless heavily modified.

Yet I drive a 2003 Territory Ghia, it is so much nicer than than the equivalent models in our driveway (Hyundai Sante Fe, Holden Captiva).
Even if 2 of the compartments are kept closed with stickers or paperclips and the 6th/7th seating area lever has snapped and the catalytic converter rattles. As a Ghia it has leather seats, electric drivers seat, dual climate control and is the most comfy car I’ve ever driven (sub $75K) - as long as the windows is closed so I can’t hear the rattle. The first Ford I owned was a EA Falcon, it also impressed for the driver position and handling (better than the Holdens I’ve driven - and I’m a Holden man).
There is also a C200 Merc in the drive (I still can’t believe they traded the Kompessor for it), the quality difference is out of this world.
O U T - O F - T H I S - W O R L D !!

Years ago I remember the first time I sat in an Outback and being impressed with the fittings and function of the interior. Subaru fit impact-resistant-foam throughout their cars for safety. I love the WRX seats so much I fitted them in my VW, it’s like they are moulded to my shape, the foam is soft enough but give them a hit and it becomes firm. One day I’ll cover them with something nicer than the stock long wearing material. There are a few interior trim items I intend to use from Subaru in the VW.

after the demise of our forester, the wife bought a Volvo XC70, its the base model but in terms of luxury and gadgets the thing is amazing. The seats are the comfiest ive sat in for a long time. 2 issues though, 1. the drive position gives me ‘tight’ ankles on long drives and 2. its a volvo.
The wife has now proclaimed she wont drive anything else.

I would proclaim back that she can drive whatever she can afford then.  If she can’t afford to drive anything she will drive whatever she is bought, I’m amazed at times that I have ever had a girlfriend.

haha, well shes the big bucks earner in our relationship, she can do whatever she wants*

*aslong as i can keep buying snowboards and heading to japan

I like your footnote ha ha ha!  Volvo is an odd car to be taken with though, they have come a long way but they still don’t really enter into my thinking, actually front wheel drive is of no interest to me at all for a car I drive.

yeah she has weird car tastes. For years her dream was to own a VW karmann ghia. Eventually she did so and it was awesome, i think i drove it around more than her. Then she wanted a modern car and forester was top of the want list. When that got smashed to bits somehow a volvo was the car to get. Who knows how a womens mind works…......
The XC70 is all wheel drive though.

If you wanted a rad car dan, you can buy my Mitsubishi Legnum off me!! Its an All wheel drive, Twin turbo v6 wagon. Stock as a rock and has been serviced with the best oils n shit. Only getting rid of it as my mini is nearly back on the road and will no longer have a use for it
$8000 and its yours haha

The matte black is a vinyl wrapp that can be removed, underneath its a dark metallic purple.

NBG, good point - I’ll keep Goldy and Sunshine Coast in mind too when looking to buy.

Is anyone aware what sort of inspections/tests are done in QLD before a car is sold? I ask because apparently to renew rego you don’t need to get it inspected like in NSW. Therefore, it could be easier to pick up a lemon you would think. For example, I had a mate driving an old Rav 4 in NSW that was not road worthy, but he kept renewing the rego via QLD (where it was registered).

The “pink slip” inspection that we are used to in NSW is only done when changing rego or selling a car in QLD. So roadworthy issues will be addressed - just make sure that it has been passed before handing over money.

Hahaha!

Nah I think like you. When i was in the backpacker community I was amazed at how manys girls had stuff in their guys backpacks!!

I was always saying “if you can’t carry it yourself you can’t take it!”

(coming from the girl who was jealous that I didn’t have a bf to carry my stuff!)

Mr Radpants (whom it seems doesn’t wear the pants in the relationship tongue laugh )

Should have kept the Karmann Ghia, they fetch good money now!
What year was it? Any photo’s?

Even the Type4 Ghia was a sexy beast.

It’s one of a few cars I would consider swapping my Type3 Squareback for (but I would keep the engine). Even one in pieces fetches a few grand.

I would also consider a Dual Cab Split Kombi but then we are talking +$20K for a crappy one (a rusted shell would be $5-$10K).

One car I wouldn’t skip a heartbeat to swap for is a 356 convertible.
Without argument It’s the coolest car on the planet (what James dean drove, raced and died in)

There’s not much I wouldn’t do for one of these.

I would put my engine in any of these ^ (it bolts in).
The engine was designed this,

and even though it’s a great car couldn’t swap the Squareback for one.

Here is MY68VW (circa 2008) it’s currently mid way to being painted black.
The drivetrain, handling & engine has had $20K put into it (not incl. labour)

Wow, It’s a convertible! Sorry for your lose mate.

Koper the wagen is mine.

edit: just realised your referring to the the Legnum not the VW downer

And the “artwork” the panels it’s on will be the last ones I paint.
