Need help picking a Splitboard

Avatar

While K2 boards are pricey, the split kit is quite a good deal, even at full price. I just picked up one for a friend on sale for $450! That’s including skins and the hardware.

That’s cheap, that’s less then my regular boards

I’m also looking at Prior snowboards talk about pricey but they offer so many options and they are built to order, a true one of a kind board

yeah, you can get a custom one but remember you’re paying for it. My friend got a custom split and a custom solid from prior with his own specs. Each cost over $2000. and in my opinion his design sucked. oh yeah, and they are super heavy

1099$ just the board that’s with the XTC carbon 2920g that’s not bad well weight price is a different story

. . . they are super heavy

No, Priors used to be heavy, not any more.

Once again, by way of comparison:

- The current Jones Hovercraft 156 splitboard weighs 7lbs 3oz.
- The current Prior Khyber 160 splitboard weighs 7lbs 6oz.
- The current K2 Panoramic 162 splitboard weighs 7lbs 12oz.
- The current Gnu Billygoat 162 splitboard weighs 8lbs.
- The current LibTech T Rice Pro 161.5 splitboard weighs 8lbs 2oz.

I was talking about my friend’s custom prior boards

Well by those specs and with the XTC Carbon the 159 is just under 6lbs 8oz that seem pretty damn good to me

Looking at Karakoram SL bindings 700g a side about a 1lb lighter then a pair of Sparks. also looking at Gecko glueless climbing skins suppose to be the lightest skins out there total looking at just under 10lbs not counting the boots that not bad at all.

Any thoughts ?

sounds like you have loads of cash, so go for it. But you don’t need to worry so much about the weight, especially for the skins.

karakorams have lots of parts. Sparks are cheaper and simpler = less things that can go wrong in the bc

I think you need to buy a gopro. It sounds like you have ridden at many resorts, inbounds and out - it’d be sick to see all that footage! Did you make it up to Whistler and ride with the BW crew?

He has a Contour. I rode with Lester for a day.

Good point on the parts, but to add another 1lb I don’t know on the bindings is hard to do its like i spend 200 more on the board to drop the weight then loose it by getting heavier bindings , ill see Karakoram makes some tough setup and they are in high demand they sell out quick so people are standing behind the hear it seems. I got time ill check reviews and stuff

As for the gopro I got hours of footage from alot of resorts just the idea of putting it together is something I can’t work up to doing, gotta chop alot of it but ill get something together. I take about 2-3 trips a year so it adds up.

I work 50 hours a week and truth is at work , at home I got snowboarding on my mind its a additional without a doubt so a good amount of money goes towards it that’s for sure. I’m always looking for new gear right towards the end of a season to get me hyped up for the upcoming season, explains the reason I’m inquiring on a splitboard setup 6-8 months before the season starts

The way i see it and from what I see when I got to different resorts is some people move away and presue what they love (snowboarding) and do it everyday I call them the lucky ones. The other tough it out, work crazy hours and then spend their money on the things they love to do that’s me.

Cool lets see some footie

I got some sweet footage of me going down Blackcomb Glacier after about a hour hike what I’m still pissed about that cause my Contour was turned 90 degrees because I was shoting from a ski poll mount right before and forgot to turn the damn lens but on the up side you can see how the Greats floats in pow, the lens turn and contour wide angle lens it caught the nose of the board perfectly floating perfectly, ill upload soon

Nice. Lol at the camera problems. My first bunch of pow days’ footage got binned because I had the wrong angle on the gopro and just filmed my legs.

Ps. Have u seen the jones ultracraft?

Oh yes I saw it, it’s a sweet ride, that thing is going to be a beast that’s for sure, If it floats anything like the hovercraft it’s gonna be a popular board for the upcoming season and will sell out quick fast. But I want something I can mess around with especially when hitting pow I like to open it up spins, working on flips its like a playground for me. Not being able to ride and land switch is a no go for me on that one. On freeride pow sessions I got the hovercraft or PYL.

The Ultracraft looks sweet, I’m somewhat tempted to go that route meaning directional and to be honest I don’t ride switch alot but having the ability to and having the board feel the same in either direction is important to me if that makes sense. It’s like I really like the Hovercraft and PYL but I remember having much more fun on my twin boards like Banana Magic and The Greats when I’m out there hitting tree runs and steeps.  I sometimes feel like I loose something (stability maybe) by not having a slightly setback stance when hitting really steep runs or high speed but I feel like that comes down to the board stiffness and camber profile more then anything else the Greats is a good example of that that’s one board out of all the ones I have that feels super comfortable at high speed and floats like a dream.

I want this splitboard to be a true all around board if that exists haha. I want something I can mess around with, hit pillows, deep pow but also can handle the big mountain steep riding that’s what I’m working up too climb, hike or Heli to the top of a big ass Mtn that’s my goal. Still plan on getting a big freeride board for those crazy big mountain runs but for now it’s all about a splitboard that can handle everything I throw at it pow, jumps, drops, and feel solid at high speed.

I’m not sure what profile Prior uses but it looks similar to Camrock I think and the board will definitely be stiffer then the Greats so I’m hoping for a similar feeling stability wise atleast at high speed.
