This is why I just buy whatever product stokes me out regardless the company behind it. For me personally, it just doesn’t matter we all have product made in China owned by multinational corp or whatever, so why should snowboarding be any different? Snowboarding companies are not gonna just disappear whether you buy YES, K2, Lib, Burton, or any other. But that’s my opinion. I respect anyone that want to support “genuine snowboard company” so I’m not going to argue against it.

I agree with SamNZ and Gamblor in that YES has some quality issues (I ride a YES board myself) but I have to say their board rides great. So I have to disagree with SamNZ that YES boards are awful (in terms of ride, not quality). Hopefully after they changed factory, the quality will be improved (mine looks more sturdy and well made compared to YES boards in the past that I’ve fondled in store).
Skip, my statement about YES being awful was a joke and bait due to Chucky’s biased and unsubstantiated views on K2. Also, this forum has too much YES fanboy hype for such mediocre product. While I do know they have had quality issues in the past, I have no idea if they’ve been fixed - but I sure as hell would never buy one. Plenty of better quality and better performing boards available for my style of riding.
Hey guys!
I’m looking for a new board purely for the park. I currently ride a 162 Head transit which is due for an upgrade I’m 6’3, 87kg and wear a US 11 boot. I’ve done a bit of riding, Canada (3 months), Austria (2 months) and trips to NZ and Japan.
I want to drop 3-5cm at least and have been looking at the K2 parkstar 159 and 157 (maybe too small?) and am wondering whether i can get away without getting a wide board and if i do get a wide board will it affect my rail transitions and riding in general?
I’ve read a few reviews of bigger guys riding the 157W and saying it doesn’t feel like a wide board at all? Any info on whether i need to ride a wider board, effects of riding a wider board and any other board recommendations would be sweet!!
Cheers
Hey stevewaycott, welcome to Boardword.
Sorry, we have some passionate members on here and threads occasionally get taken off topic.
Anyway, out of all the available sizes in the Parkstar, I think the 159 would be best overall. The 157 will be too narrow I feel but you should be fine with the 251mm waist on the 159. Also you are using this purely as a park board so your stance should be fairly wide, giving you more width under your feet. I don’t think you need to go up to the 157 wide; 161mm waist is wider than you need to go (the board has rocker which makes it quicker to turn, hence what you’re reading about it doesn’t feel wide). You could get away with it for sure, but you don’t need that much width. I think the 159 will be your best overall pick.
I hope this helps you somewhat. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Guys, keep this thread on topic or I will have to close it. No more brand opinions/bashing in this thread please.
