Go Pro Hero 3 (Black ed.) vs Contour+2

I will try and follow up the Contour +2 question. An associate that I see on a daily basis in Thredbo sells them.

Since this thread started a new player has come into my radar Replay XD 720 - with a retail price tag of $175 (cheaper through me); weight 56g, size of a cigarette lighter, all accessories (including memory card), shoots 720@60, 2 hour battery. It’s hard not to consider!
The big brother; Replay XD 1080 retails at $339.
Both are near bomb proof and are used extensively in broadcast motor sports.

Also Drift HD Ghost, but you are off Drift.

Thanks for that. What’s your opinion on the video quality? I had a peek at some videos on youtube and the video looks good.
The only gripe that people seem to have is the wind noise.

What recommendations would you have in terms of limiting the bad noise? Just the tape that’s included or perhaps a cheap mic?

Tape some foam over the on-camera mic.

Video quality is no different on almost any ActionCam. Most of the differences are essentially gimmicks. Usability is the important factor.

GPH3 has great video quality (it’s the best) but it’s wasted with the lens and manufacturing of the camera.

Any grievance anyone says about any brand can be corrected either in camera or in post - that’s what GoPro does to make their footage look so good.

Contour is marketing themselves hard in the snow scene, they gave cameras to Perisher last year and are the major sponsor for a POV snow video competition this year.
Their gimmick is that you can chose the colour of your camera.

Video quality - it makes little difference as long as it shoots 720@30fps and has a glass lens.

I ended up getting the Contour+2 this time round.
Spaz, what are some of your recommendations/ideas for mounting on the snowboard itself and even on the boots/bindings?

edit: While I’m at it…I will be doing the Tough Mudder challenge on the Sunshine Coast in August. Any thoughts on mounting the cam for that event?

Re: Tough mudder, I’d be trying to keep it up high, most of your body gets covered.

If you can head mount it, that’d probably be the best option.
