Advice for first time seasoners

Avatar

Hi All,

Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year!

So a few mates and I are planning on doing a season in Canada for the 2013/14 winter (maybe a bit premature but we need to plan and save!) and I thought there would be a stack of user knowledge just waiting to be accessed and abused! Hence this thread!

So a rundown of the plan (so far): The group will be small, looking at 3-5 people. Expected to depart in early December and stay till March? While budget is flexible at least 2 of the people going are students so low-cost where available would be ideal.

Now for the initial questions:
•  stay put vs road trip – I expect that road tripping would be more fun and adventurous but it would also most likely drive the cost of the trip up..
•  resorts – Obviously we have been looking at Whistler but again open to suggestions..
•  jobs – Some of my mates will be qualified in their fields (IT, Carpentry, Hospitality, Design) and would ideally get related work but advice on this would be awesome of what jobs are good/somewhat easy to get etc.
•  accommodation – Ideally we would all stay together but open to suggestions.. Anyone know of any good sites?
•  agent vs personally planned – Any advice on this?
•  gear – To hire or not to hire? We all have our own gear and would prefer to use it but any solid argument for hire is welcome!
•  More…. Im sure there will be more smile

Basically what I had hoped anyone with any experience doing seasons would give appropriate tips/general advice and help me and my mates hopefully have the best time ever.

As always, any information/advice is really appreciated.

Cheers,
C

Have a read of the Whistler blog, current and years past. The crew you need / want to talk to are there along with the answers to all of your questions smile

With 3-5 people, you guys should definitely buy a van and stay put in one place, road trip on days off and maybe a big adventure at the end of season. You will most likely get addicted to seasons then the car can be used again, if you can find a mate to take care of it over summer.
