The Snowboard Brake - what do you make of this??

Um… WTF? I think the idea behind it is ok, but really, is it that important!? Are we really as humans getting lazy that we can’t get up & down strapping in!?

its a good way to pick out the new boarders to the regulars haha

I really only see true beginners buying it. Can you imagine true beginners fucking drilling into their boards to install these? Goodbye core! Goodbye warranty!

I also can’t believe that it’s actually that stable. You plug this thing into the snow, throw one foot in, and then if you’re not super balanced (lets face it, beginners aren’t) it can swivel and throw you off. I’d like to see a video on how it works when you’re on a slope, too.

Aaaaaand, how far away from the base is the pin recessed? It needs to be flush to avoid damage to the base, but if you’re jibbing on it and flexing the board (longitudinally or torsionally) there’s potential for the pin to stick out. Then…catch, wham!

I filled in their survey, but I really can’t see it making it to production. If it does, I hope it’s cheap and they’re willing to cover the cost of failed installations and expanded cores…

I agree with enn zed on this one. I don’t see this being a product that can work. Who in there right mind would drill right through the core and base of their board. Definitely kiss your warranty good bye.

i have devised a better idea that i might submit to them…honestly tell me what you think.

haha nice one banger!
i think its a really silly idea, unless ur goal is to destroy your board.
there is nothing wrong with standing up and down to strap in. and depending on the snow condition and slope, you can usually stand there or dig your edge into the snow anyway to be stable

Avatar

this idea is really really crap and i cant wait to see people have it on the mountain haha

Avatar

This is the stupidest idea ever.

If you need to strap in sit down.

I don’t think this is going to get very far.

if it were more low profile I’d consider it. but damn that thing stands out lol

Avatar

It will never work because as Banger pointed out, where can you have your stomp pad?! Imagine skating along and you go to put your foot down where your stomp pad used to be and bang youve stacked it!

Avatar

sorry snowcrazy…my comment on the stomp pad was meant to be a witty stab at not really needing one… i think my joke just failed

Just another gimmick, really.
This one is kind of over the top.

I place my comments to them below:
there have been a few products developed as gimmicks to try and make snowboarding more simple, or more accessible to new riders. They have prety much all flopped. Step in and different ways to NOT bend over when strapping in. (Flow bindings is the only legit step in related product out there) Gimmicks, like spinning bindings, hand brakes style levers for “brakes”. the truth is that resorts are dropping the “brake” requirement for boards. they are even dropping the leash laws for boarders too. I do not think a product like this will sell at all. I have been a snowboard instructor for over 10 years, and I am level II AASI certified and I cannot see this product gaining any positive attention. There could be a slim chance if it were WAY more slimmed down and barely noticeable. but still I’d never encourage anyone to put a hole in the board for it.

so whats the verdict here?? will i be seeing people with the hideous invention on the hill this season you think?? i prey to god that i dont haha

Avatar

I dont think you will ever see it.
Unless some resort buys it for all of the rental boards… which would make things so obvious how little they really know about snowboarding.
It would be a sad epic fail.
