While chatting to the snow shoe group we heard a groan of bad language and turned around to see chucky sliding on his arse, his snow shoes had somehow lost their footing and he was scrambling to get traction - it would have been amusing except for the 100 odd meter gorge he could have plummeted into, fortunately he managed to use one of his stocks to stop himself.

To take my mind off the final ascent I counted how many steps it took: 20meters from the top I reached 1,000 - I knew it was tough on the legs!

Brad fb profiling on the summit monument.

Lisa providing me more evidence of my age by making it to the top in front of me.

The monument. Last time I was up here it was a field of exposed rocks, this time the only thing in contrast to the snow is the monument.

After a wait long enough that I was close to deciding chucky had given up he emerged through the mist. True to the boardworld spirit he caught his breath and clambered up to be the highest person in Oz.

On the slide back from the summit Brad selected his line and dropped in early, Chucky followed my guidance and took on an easier section of the cornice, Lisa however stayed on my tail.
I was aiming for the ‘bucket list’ rock or at least a line I had selected when scoping it on the hike out there. By the time it was to late I realised Lisa was with me. I started searching for better section for her to get over the cornice (pic below of me checking section for her) - The Kosci cornice is ideal before it loses the sunlight, we missed it by about 20min. With tired muscles I wasn’t going to risk launching myself off onto a steep icy section so sent Lisa over the edge to get an idea of how soft/hard the cover was, this took a fair bit of encouragement and after some psyching up she made a final statement; “I can see myself tumbling the whole way down” then she dropped in on her heel edge (I had de-tuned her edges last week) when she dug her edge in there was a moment I though she had called it… but no! It still had some quality snow on the surface and she started making turns to the bottom.

Brad or chucky mentioned getting footage of my line next to the rock. I was so keen to hit it but talked myself out of it due to my knee/ankle/age/fitness/icy snow (or it may have been that I had to walk a mate out of there 2 years ago when he blew his knee on the cornice) either way it was still a nice line I chose and hope it was documented.

At the base of the cornice before beginning the hike home.

Looking back at our conquest.

Last strap in on the top of Signature - next stop Black Salees for a beer.

Walking back through the resort I was spotted outside the pizza shop and told I was needed to work. After a second beer at the bistro I went home for a shower/bath then worked until 9:30. After work my legs found a second wind and I ended up dancing the night away at the Schuss and Keller until dragging Lisa out of the Keller at 1am. By 1:07 I was collapsing in bed. This morning I felt good and was up at 7am but didn’t slide. Scored an appointment with the physio who has left me with bruised ribs.

I now have to go say farewell to the bar manager at Ullr. (and I was planning on getting some rest before the shred)

Wow! another great photo & vid…

I did hike to this highest peak about 16-17 years ago in summer time…. sigh sound like I’m old man… Nah not this old! (for record I’m 41)

I google the photo to compare how much deep snow and found this cool stuff, couldn’t resist
http://maps.panedia.com/?pano=6321&mt=s
click in full view and rotate 360° to give you a good lookout

I guess the snow depth in your photo when you stand on the monument would be over a metre… Spaz do you reckon am I right?

Amazing pics!  - It looks like something from another country not australia!!  Definately on my bucket list now too.  Thanks for sharing!  cheese

I think your 100% right. That’s about what I guess is the depth, every single rock is covered.

Here is a 360? photo I stitched together back in 2006 (very bad cover).

Caught up with Brad at around 11pm. He did Kosci again yesterday and is on his way AGAIN today!!!!! That’s 4 days in a row!!!!!!!!!
I’m on pick-up duty if they decide to descend into DHG.

~quick follow up~
Last night was a big one to see in spring. Home at 2:45am, ph rings at 2:52 as Keller empties and night owls look for a branch to party on.
I do believe I’ve given up on getting any rest before the shred. Lets call this ‘conditioning myself’ in preparation of the shred.

looking at that terrain, it just screams for a splitboard. Think of all the time & energy you would save on that flat bit

Hey silent,

Your not an old man.
There are a handful of us with similar vintage to guide the youthful boardworld members.
I myself will be 39 in 26days and believe chucky may be the oldest BWM.

Haha! The whole time I was hiking in my snowshoes, I was thinking how this terrain is perfectly suited for splitboards - then this one particular area opened up, and I thought about how awesome it’d be to do laps with a kite!

Hey spaz, I can teach you how to fly these if you don’t already know. I’ll bring a smaller one with me next week.

Kiteboarding would be unreal. One of the instructors I worked with at Thredbo in 2006 was a kiteboarding coach. He actually went out the back a few times that season. Although I didn’t get to go with him, he told me it was awesome.

sorry if I missed it, but how long did it take you to summit (from the top lift)?

Didn’t note the time taken to get there and we detoured via an emergency hut. This morning I had a look at the distance signposted at VT - 13km return 4-6hrs

SIIICK!!!!!!

I haven’t riden with a kite on snow or water but have on land, I’ve also done a little sailing.
I’ve completely aced flying 2m stunt kites years ago to the point of drawing lines with the wing tip on sand without ditching.

I have a bird brain.
