Ohhhh and I am in Melbourne that night too…...............
Sorry it’s a bit late, but this is how the night went down…..
Every now and then something really cool happens in the sport. It
becomes an Olympic event, a really sick DVD gets released right before
the season or your bro throws down something crazy on a 20 stair hand
rail (if you’re friends with Heikki Sorsa maybe). If you weren’t at
the FYVE Obvious launch last Saturday 21st of Nov, you probably missed
the feeling any of these might induce.
Dually launching their 2010 products FYVE and Obvious held an epic
bash at Lagom bar on Brunswick Street Fitzroy. With sponsors such as
Vodka O hooking up a VIP room, poker table, burlesque dancer and beats
being thrown down by DJ 360 and crew, not to mention an insane skate
and snow jam held on the top level ... where the hell were you?
Firstly let’s not forget the massive undertaking of actually getting
two quarterpipes and a hand rail up to a third storey with no lift.
Yep, I am totally serious when I tell you that this determined crew
dragged them up three flights of stairs and through ... a window.
On the top level the quarter pipes were set up to create a wall ride
and the rail, kindly brought all the way on loan from Buller Ski Lifts
by FYVE founder Clive Dickerson, was later dragged out to amp it up
and then used for the snow jam. The set up was so ghetto and sketchy
that no one actually thought the boys would pull it off, however,
these boys are ALL about ghetto. Representing FYVE (and ending up
with a hook up from Obvious), skater Austin Bossak owned that wall and
Dan Rennie definitely made it his bitch.
The snow jam consisted of over 27 bags of ice being brought in and
crushed up to create a run in and landing. Considering the rather
small space which was packed wall to wall with people, the one foot
thrown down by Steve ‘Nosey’ Parsons was super tech and insane, making
him the most consistent rider of the night and scoring a new sponsor,
while Allie (Mt Hotham crew) lay down 270 board slides. Marc Triffitt
was styling out some smooth back lips with Cameron ‘Camo’ Dowling
being the guinea pig and pulling off rewinds. Greg Murray had some
heavy stacks but ended up being one of the solid riders in the Jam
pulling tail press front side to back lips.
The sign of any good party is the fact that people are still there
dancing after 3:00am, or is that just because they are too drunk to
get home and are hoping if they pass out on the bean bags no one will
notice?
If you missed the hot tunes, cool chicks and most awesome skate/snow
jam ever, you might want to be a bit more organised and make sure
you’re at the pre-season party next April. In your diary people
‘cause it’s going to be even bigger!
Big shout out for the night to Charlie H from Obvious, pooling his
contacts, getting the hook ups and starting the madness.
We are soooooo spewing, we had to pull the pin on that weekend cause one of the kids was sick.
Looks like we missed an insane night and catching up with lots of friends :-(
Have you got any more pics from the night please?
Yeah I think I do… I will get them up soon.
Thanks!!!!
Actually it will be easier emailing you. I have a bunch of photos. PM me your email address.
