Can anyone tell me anything much about the Mornington peninsula area in Vicco? There is a job down there we might apply for, for my husband. I’ve never been there so have no clue. I’m thinking of important questions like How far to the snow? Any waves? Is there millions of tourists? Is it pretty? The rent seems pretty cheap down there.
Also the nearby towns further south like Flinders and round closer to phillip island?
any help appreciated!
Mornington Peninsula is a nice area. Some nice winerys down there. One side you have the bay and out the back you have surf. Just depends where abouts down there it is. Is it around Mornington itself? Or further south towards areas like Arthurs Seat all the way through to Sorento?
There is plenty of surf down that way. Whether its Flinders, Woolamai, Gunnamatta and Point Leo areas. And around Phillip Isl. there is heaps of on shore and off shore breaks too. If you want you can always work further east along the coast and there is more.
In Summer, and public holiday weekends it gets super busy down there! Really two main hwys that run down the peninsula and they get so insanely congested on holidays. The main holiday towns would be Sorento, Portsea, Rye and Rosebud. Rye for example reminds me of a Jersey Shore Episode in summer on a hot day. It definately has a mass “guedo” crowd on the main beach. These are not the surf beaches though. These are all on the bay side.
But still are nice small coastal towns.
As you head up towards Dromana it quietens down more. It is all very pretty down there, especially as you come down over Arthurs Seat area, and also up near Mount Martha is nice too. And as I said before, Mornington itself is a nice town. Good pubs, little bit of a yuppie feel to it, but its nice.
The
I think the job itself is in Mornington (building boats) but was just looking around places like Rosebud, Shoreham, Crib point and a bit further north but still near the water. If there was a nice little town/suburb that was fairly quiet, close to good surf and had a nice feel to it and within a 20-30min drive from mornington itself, that would be sick I reckon. I think the down towards portsea sounds a bit like yuppieville and prob be too expensive but maybe its a bit quieter on the coast round more towards phillip island?
how far to the snow?
thanks for your help, K2!
You forgot to mention the lovely town of Frankston which great it has high levels of deadbeats, junkies and thieves
Crib point is nice though and so is rosebud, i was down at HMAS Cerberus for a while when i was in the army doing my chef apprenticeship, The night ride home from the city is death though

Frankston is still a nice place to visit during a nice summers day.
Not all areas are bad, but I do agree there is a lot of deros there.
Frankston is completely seperate to Mornington, so wouldnt take that into consideration.
how far to the snow?
thanks for your help, K2!
Thats prob gonna be your only downfall compared to living more in towards melbourne. Not sure how long it takes you now to get to different mountains so dont knwo the comparison.
Here are some rough numbers:
Mornington to Mt Buller Approx 4hrs
To Hotham/Falls Aprox 6hrs
To Baw Baw Approx 3hrs.
Cos the Peninsula is bottle necked it and further south it adds to the trip, but now with East Link it doesnt take long to get from down there to the out of Melbourne.
