An update on my car:
Photobucket

Engine and Paint.
With the prospect of doing a few k’s in my car over winter I thought I better make sure the knocking sound in the engine didn’t turn fatal.
Turned out that two pistons had seized on their conrods.  big surprise
Before going into the shop to have them replaced I had striped the paint off the bonnet and glassed up the rusty spot, smoothed it out with spray putty and filler. I now have the front wheel guards off while the engine work is being done and have one up to the same stage as the bonnet, the other has a few days work still.

I’ll get photo’s of the panel work when I get back from the snow next week.
The engine should be finished by next week - I’ll have a lot of work to do if I want to drive it to the snow anytime soon, I think it will only be half painted for most of June.

I got buckets in the Vito, and it’s a great option to be able to walk into the back via the gap!!!!!

Especially when it’s pissin down outside!!!!!  cool grin

i like the partition though to keep noise of all my plumbing gear out of my head, the aircon running less and the ability to carry 3 up front which i had in the ute.

Yeah walk through is great!
But that’s such a great partition - it will keep so much of the cold out of the back at night.

yeah eventually im gunna do a sub floor with insulation (aircell R2.5 rated) insulate the walls and ply it out with marine grade or similar trimming carpet.

going through design ideas with my mate who is a chippy, we should be able to do it all within a nice budget too. so SDV is the last obstacle in camping out at the snow…she reckons it will be too cold, i say it’s just after years of staying in cushy digs. we started out camping on our first trips to jindy…. in a tent.

It’s like a little shipping container!

A van like that would easily be comfortable once decked out. Just needs a toilet for the girls and mirror and…....

I used the 2X layer foam from clarks rubber - (I have no idea what “aircell R2.5 rated” is) - works really well wink

Don’t ya wanna get the heat from up front into the back???? That’s where the heaters are!!!! Unless ya run a duct????

aircell is like bubble wrap made of foil but it’s only 7mm thick. it’s R-rating of 2.5 is eqivalent to a cieling fibreglass batt 140mm thick.

Oooh that sounds good, 7mm!! And it’s sound insulation is good?

It’s better to have insulation than to have to get up every few hours, turn the engine on and wait for it to warm up.

Banger can always put a hinge to split the DIV

or make the little perspex window removable.

sound insulation is not that great…but with the divider it’s not such a big deal. if the divider was not there i would put the sound deadening stuff in….except it all adds weight.

here are some of my inspiration pics…

not really for work but very nice idea.

how does that air foil stuff go? i have never used it, i have used a foil wrap that had 5-7mm thick foam in it which worked excellent. have heard bad things about the air foil but its all 2nd hand knowledge so im taking it with a grain of salt
