What are your goals this season?

Haha, my school has an Indian radio station playing to get people out of the toilets instead of smoking.

Slider, by Indian, you mean actually indian/bollywood or indie music?
Cos I really despise bollywood for the tunes and the fact that its so incomprehensible

Actually, yes. but more the instrumental music I enjoy. the songs they sing to, I cant get into cause I dont understand them. not very fun.

Magnatune has many various styles to listen to.

AHAHAHAAAA that got me bawling. That has got to be the funniest shit i’ve heard in a while…
I know that lilydale train station puts on a classical radio station to keep the trouble-causing people from hanging around there.

Yeah, the music is just annoying and just pushes people out into the bus area at the station.

I find that from personal experience that it actually pisses off the bums who get off the train and i’ve actually been threatened a few times.
I play pool a bit at the rack-em-up pool hall.

Rack ‘em up is a bit far out of the city for pool. Isn’t there one closer in to the city?

Im not in the city mate.
Im in vermont

Ah, that makes more sense. Couldn’t work out why’d you be looking at an hour on the train, haha

Train and bus to school would take an hour.
such crap…
They pride themselves on the number fo smart kids they have.
Honestly, they dont have good teachers for a school that prides themselves on being academic and all.
All they had was a sweet as snowsports program which few other govt. schools offer.

Melbourne High as a selection school would be expected to have smart kids or athletes. A school with large donations such as MHS is bound to have great sports programs.

They dont get much donations.
They’re actually a pretty poor school but the government gives them more money than others each year.
It only does well because they select the best boys out of the state and the way VCE works, its a ranking system so its hard to top melbourne high no matter how shit their teachers are…
They have a minority who are ridiculously good at sport but fail at academics. they only take you in on that basis if you are a state rep of some sort

The teachers must be of some quality though. Relative to other ‘mainstream’ public schools that is. I’d guess some average teachers are able to stay on as they have good performers in VCE though.

I’d rate Vermont Secondary School teachers the equivalent or if not better than melbourne high school in most of the subjects i am doing.
Plus, not to mention to craploads of extra time im getting now that i dont have to travel…

As a Melbourne High alumni, let me throw in my 2 cents worth.
MHS does receive some substantial donations in comparison to other public schools.
However, this in no way compares to the sizes of donations that private schools receive.

With the teachers, there are both the brilliant ones and the dud ones but overall the quality is higher than one might find in regular public schools.
Once again, this often cannot compare to private schools who are able to pay their teachers significantly more.

Also, you’d be surprised that most of the sporting representatives taken in do quite well academically.

Then again, I wouldn’t know how much has changed over the recent years.

Finally, with the way the VCE system is designed, you are at a significant advantage if your school as a whole does well. As the overall result (of SACs etc…) is compared and stratified according to the student cohort.

What many did find difficult is the complex of being a big fish in a small pond transitioning into just another fish in the pond.

Sounds interesting enough. Are the facilities good compared to other schools? ie. labs, ovals. The SAC advantage is reasonable but more so if you underperform and get pulled up a couple of marks
