So I left whistler for a bit with Pete (rah)
Caught the bus down to Vancouver on Sunday and then jumped on a flight to Kelowna where my old school mate picked us up and drove us up to his place in Big White where we stayed for a few days.
Had a killer day on Monday, 24cm of fresh snow in 24 hours and absolutely nobody on the mountain, and by nobody I mean we walked onto every lift, the longest we waited was maybe 2 chairs. Started off doing a few laps of Black Forest Express and going through the trees around Cougar Alley and Whiskey Jack. Was all going well with Tom showing us around some great trees and small drops but unfortunately Tom had a bit of a moment with a tree which resulted in his day ending pretty abruptly.
Rode with Pete for the rest of the day and spent a bit of time out on Cliff Chair. Initially only half of it was open as they were bombing one side so we did a few laps there enjoying the fresh then went off and checked out some of the snow ghosts up the top.

Second day at Big White was a bit of a let down to be honest, having such an amazing first day meant that unless there was 30+cm of snow overnight there was no way that we were going to be blown away like we were on Monday.
Originally we’d planned to go to Revlestoke on Wednesday which is a bit over a 3 hour drive from big white but with Tom being out of action we opted to head to Silver Star instead as it was only a 2 hour drive away and Tom knew a few people there so he was able to catch up with them and do some uni work at the same time so it worked out quite well.
There was only 6cm overnight in Silver Star but it felt like a lot more. Same deal as Big White with no lift lines anywhere and a lot of snow left over from the previous 20+cm they received on Monday. Pete and I smashed a tonne of double black diamond runs off the Powder Gulch chair and at the end of the day shot up to Alpine Meadow Chair for a few runs. First time heading up spotted this drop which I just had to hit… Stomped it three times which had me stoked thus making for a perfect ending to an amazing trip
Heres just a bunch of random shots from Silver Star.
And finally the drop… Big thanks to Pete for grabbing this photo
Nice pics Finney! Glad you had a great time there, really wanna go back Big White again sometime.
nice pics dude
Sweet
Did you get to go to the Gem Lake area Fin?
Yeah shot out there for a few runs on Tuesday and it was pretty good. Visibility was rubbish at the top but could definitely see that it would be a hell of a lot of fun with fresh and less moguls.
Awesome trip report, finney. Great photos too. Stoked you scored epic pow on your trip!
Makes me miss Big White, good memories there…
