2011 package deals

Has anyone stayed at the Station before? I’ve never stayed there and was wondering if anyone would reccommend it?

I am looking at the 3 day package they have on their website, but just not sure what their facility is like…

A good drive from Jindy as well. It is walking distance but you can drink a six pack and be sober before making the distance wink

Named The Station Resort as it was intended by Kerry Packer to be the final destination for the Skitube and a very cheap accommodation option with good access to the mountain. Only approval of the tube (or was it funding?) didn’t allow it to be extended that far and Perisher kept ownership after buying that land, Guthega, Blue Cow, Smiggins and Perisher Ski resorts. It is not exactly easy access to anything unless the venue hosts a show.

If staying there you need a car. But remember it will add 1.5hrs travelling each day to the snow and drinking at an isolated resort in the sticks because the police keep a sharp eye on drunk drivers heading there from Jindy.

I stayed there last year. Its good accom for the price. Its not that far from jindy, Maybe a $10 cab fare with the only cabby in jindy. I am going back there this year. I think its $650 for 5 and a half days snow which includes the ski tube and accomadation. Thats a great deal

I know I can get something better for cheap when booking early, but when I did that a few years ago I got burnt by there being barely any snow!!! Such a waste of money that was.

Isn’t that always the way? Book early to get the early bird price but you are locked in even there is no snow….or “wait and see” what the conditions are like and if it dumps just hope there is a room somewhere grin

Nah it was June 2008! Even worse!

If booking for July wait until after school holidays or make it for the last 2 weeks of July. There is never enough snow in June - ever!!!

Our season is 8 weeks of ridable terrain; all of August and 2 weeks either side. The official calendar snow season is 18 weeks (June long weekend to Oct Long weekend). The money making window for businesses’ is 10 weeks.

The only way to guaranty a day of good riding is to either;
-Stay for 2 weeks in August
-Be prepared to do an overnight drive when there is a dump
-Live there

When there is a dump overnight you wont make early lifts unless you stay on snow or leave Jindy before the roads get cleared (chains) - the roads get jammed with traffic, mostly staff trying to get to work from Jindy (no staff live in the resorts) - you’ll be left with tracked out terrain.

It’s even worse if it dumps peak season on a weekend - this is when the police do breath testing (every year) and it WILL take up to 4 hrs travel from Jindy!!!!!!!!!

If anyone thinks working for a resort will guaranty a good days riding think again!! When it snows they need all hands on deck to cater for paying customers.

Using the SkiTube makes little difference.
