Hey guys im just getting into doing some film editing.
i have a macbook pro 15 i7 so no problems running both smoothly
but really just looking for the best program??
thanks guys :D
I think you will find most professionals working in the industry prefer Final Cut Pro. Personally I’m using Final Cut Express on my 15” i7 and I absolutely love it. I have so much to learn on FCE before progressing to Pro. It’s a really good program to learn on.
yeh ? so you reckon go with express first ?
hmm thanks man :D
I’ve considered downgrading to fce because fcp is almost overkill. Though I haven’t used fce - I often use iMovie wich is very simple to use and the best program to use if you have no experience. All my daily run vidz are cut on iMovie.
Learning to use fcpro really comes with experience or someone to show you what it’s capable of.
I have Final Cut Studio so my upgrade for that is about the same as Express - I don’t have the time to learn how to utilise everything and I’ve been using it for 10years.
Stick to iMovie until you know that you need Final Cut Express. I think you can upgrade from express to pro.
yeh ? so you reckon go with express first ?
hmm thanks man :D
Yeah for sure. It’s really a great program with many capabilities. There’s so much you can do in FCE. Comparing the prices: something like $250 for FCE, $1500 for FCP.
Wow, those prices have dropped!!!!!!
Final Cut Studio is $1499
I was just guessing prices. Looks like I was fairly close. $268 for FCE, $1500 for FCP. It will be even cheaper if you’re a student I think?
‘Final Cut Studio’ includes ‘FCPro’; it also has the pro software for DVD authoring (‘DVD studio’), ‘Compressor’ (which I’m guessing you get with FCE) - a great program for exporting video to the format of your choice, ‘Motion’ (graphics) and ‘Soundtrack Pro’ (music). Apple have dropped ‘Live Type’ which is a great program for making custom titles.
But like I said you need training to use these programs - they aren’t as intuitive as other apple software like iMovie which comes in the ‘iLife’ package ($69) which is VERY user friendly and includes iWeb, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and Garage Band. (iWeb is great by the way if you want to build your own website)
At $69 I would try iMovie first. It really will meet the needs of most first time editors.
