Canon Lenses

Looking for advice, we are looking at getting a new lens for our 7D.

you’ll see what we are looking at. We already have the EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L ISII and a Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM in the kit. We added those lenses to the list to compare.

We want a fast lens for indoor shots in lowish lighting, trying to avoid using a flash.

Our brief asks for huge amounts of pics of people conversing at a conference. The shots should be natural and not posed for the most part.
The subjects are also engaged in short business meetings spanning 6 hours at 10 minutes each while we are working, so we must not disturb while we shoot (to the most part)

There is also the social side of the conference, being a dinner dance, breakfasts and formal dinners. Setting up of the ballroom for meetings and dinner.

Two photographers working two cameras for this time. (happening over three and a half days)

Do any of you wise folk out there have words of wisdom for us before we throw down some hard earned coin?

If you already have the 70-200 F2.8 L usm II then that will work good to keep your distance while capturing your subjects.  But if you really need to buy something (as we all do) the 24-70 will give you more reach then the rest and still be wide enough to capture the rest of the scene.

The 10-22 is $173.00 cheaper, the 17-55 is $266.00 cheaper and the 70-200 is $547.00 cheaper!

I have not used any of them before so when you make your choice send in some sample shots.

We had a play with a few lenses and have ordered the 17 - 55 2.8 is usm. We held off on the 24-70 because rumour has it that it will be released with IS in the next year, another “have to have”

Thanks for your input and the heads up on the website, they are heaps cheaper.

Glad to help,  let me know how you like the lens.  Did you order from the site?  Im putting in a order at the end of the month for a 7d, they are getting the Canon EF 8-15mm f4L Fisheye USM Lens in the next week or two… I am waiting to see the price of it but will probably go with the 17-40 F4L or the Sigma 24-70 EX DG HSM and may be just may be the Canon 70-200 F4 L IS USM but I may wait and save for the 2.8.
