Help! Crossing from Canada to the USA to get a visa

Hi there,
Based on some of the advice I received on this forum, I headed over to Canada before my visa was granted. I’m now in big white, and have just received the letter of introduction email. I now need to cross the border into the USA, and then re-enter Canada to get the visa. Just wondering if anyone knows whether I can cross the closest border (EG: seems like the closest US town is Oroville) or whether I need to go to a major border crossing (EG: near Seattle). Please help if you can cos I’m wanting to do this ASAP!

Thanks dudes.

They only sent the letter now? How many weeks has it been since you applied? They must have had a lot of applications or maybe there was a minor issue with yours.

Anyway, you should be able to get your visa at any port of entry. You should probably do this the quickest and cheapest way. I would guess a bus or get a ride with someone to Kelowna, then get on a Greyhound bus to Oroville or fly to Dorothy Scott Airport. They will grant your visa on the way back at the port of entry.

Whatever you decide, I would double check with the Department of Immigration. Don’t forget, you need to show evidence of funds at the port of entry ($4000 AUD I believe) or they will not grant your visa.

Not sure why the visa took as long as it did. It actually took about 4 weeks which is what they say it will; it’s just that everyone said it would be far less. I think it’s just because it was Christmas time etc.

I have looked into going to Orroville and it’s hard to get there without my own car and apparently will take about 10 hours. Much easier just to head to Seattle as there are many greyhounds going that way.

Thanks for you help!
