Not Suitable For Warren????
Yeah the snow was real wet and heavy today. And a fair bit of rain. I had one run and then bailed!
Yesterday though I had the best run of my life! Got to 7th heaven around when it opened for the season. There was fresh snow everywhere, it was awesome! Just went exploring. I think I mainly went down around Cloud 9. Ended up going through some cool tree section as well. So much fun! When I got to the bottom the lift lines were massive. Ended up taking just over half an hour. By the time I got up there again the vis had dropped a bit and there wasn’t much fresh snow left. Was crazy to see how fast people hunt it out. Stoked that I got at least one amazing run though
that’s the problem with whistler: too many good riders and the place gets tracked so fast. It’s all about the secret spots that are hard to get to

That seems to be very true. I just need to find the secret spots!
We should buy a few sleds for the Boardworld crew…

Great idea ... are you funding that?
^time for some new sponsors hey Jeremy
Just got in from what I’m going to call best day of the season yet. Met up with a friend in the village and rode whis all day long.
Started off going down to emerald via the gondi line which i’ve been hitting with the guys most of the season. Nobody had been through it before us and it was knee deep in parts which was great but at the same time the heavy snow from the other day still needed to be compacted a little but either way the top half was super light and fluffy.
After that hit up ratfink twice, both times scoring a tonne of fresh lines and 2nd time went through under the peak 2 peak tree line which could still use a bit more cover but all in all a hell of a lot better than when i hit it a bit over a week ago. By the time we’d finished up the 2nd run of ratfink Harmony had just opened so shot out there and had 2 killer runs before calling it as the lift line was getting stupid and needed a quick breather (have a cold/flu at the moment so riding doped up on drugs to get through). The 2 runs we did were magic, some insane fresh knee deep lines through Little Whistler, Camel Back, Low Roll and Kaleidescope.
Shot into the Roundhouse for a quick break, grabbed some water and got a message from a mate saying that Peak chair was open so we shot down there with the maze half full and were on a chair in no time. Wind was pretty high up top and vis wasn’t fantastic but once we’d dropped off the back and gotten onto Peak to Creek it was crazy, fresh lines everywhere so we bombed the whole way down to creekside riding fresh pretty much the whole way down. Were a few sketchy points towards the bottom avoiding some creeks and some nice ditches but nothing too bad considering it’s still early season and it was roped off. Back leg held up really well with only slight burn which has me stoked knowing that all the riding so far this season has really paid off and I’m in better shape than I originally thought hahahaha. I think the board is definitely to thank as it was amazing all day, ust the right amount of flex and the huge tip and tail make it super easy to ride in the deeper stuff. Feels really strong through all the turns and loves sitting up through all the deeper stuff.
Unfortunately no photos since i forgot my camera but I think Kiera took a few shots so will try and grab some to throw up.
Sounds like you had a great day, Mike. Was there much rain damage on the lower slopes from Sunday? I looked at the forecast and it showed lots of precipitation with the freezing level at 1900m.
Yeah down lower it wasn’t fantastic but having not done the ride out to creek before it wasn’t all that bad - no worse than the ride out to the village a bit over a week ago. If anything that rain has really packed down the base a lot more but up top it was a bit sketchy with the really heavy stuff just below and hasn’t been packed down. It all fell over the early stages of the night as light powder but the rain came through later on in the early hours of the morning and continued so it turned what was really nice pow into the heavy stuff
There were a few sketchy points from Low Roll over the crest into Kaleidescope where I had a 2m x 1m section just slide out from behind me in an area that had been bombed. People had already gone over it and taken off the 12cm of fresh but the whole wet section that fell on Sunday just didn’t seem to be super stable with big nuggets just sliding and rolling off that steeper section. That was on the 2nd run that i noticed that and you could see that it really needs to be packed down a bit more but given that the alpine hasn’t opened in a few days it’s to be expected with the 2 very different types of snow falling in such short succession.
Sounds killer Mike!!! Gotta try the Peak to Creek myself…
Another sort of early start for today and was up the hill by 9:30. Was only 1cm of fresh snow reported on the Whistler Blackcomb website but was definitely a lot more in the alpine. Peak chair was open early so shot straight up there and did Peak to Creek as a warm up. Fairly tracked out after yesterday and pretty poor vis up top but once we dropped down to just before Highway 86 the vis was fine so got some good lines through there from all the windswept snow. Once on Lower Peak to creek was fairly tracked but still a lot of fun so just continued down to creekside dropping through another cloud layer which lead to some pretty average vis but made it down the bottom to Dusty’s for a quick break then shot up the top again. Vis on whistler in general didn’t seem too good so Jumped on the P2P over to Blackcomb.
Shot down through some trees and managed to find some good snow then jumped on Glacier Express and shot out towards Crystal which was really quiet. With Crystal chair closed I think a lot of people just can’t be bothered hitting up the crystal region which is great as we found some knee and waist deep stashes in places. Had planned to hit Arthurs Choice originally but once we saw that only one skier had been on Outer Limits we couldn’t help ourselves and dropped in there. Just crazy powder in there… looked like next to nobody had hit it in the past few days so we had freshies pretty much the whole way down. Shot back up the top of Glacier again and then hit up Arthurs Choice which was a bit more tracked out but definitely a bit easier than cutting fresh lines into Outer Limits as the top undulates a bit so if you lose your speed you get pretty well stuck and have to hike/roll to higher ground.
Entry to Outer Limits - as you can see the only line in was on the left from one Skier
Sounds like you’re having great days out there, Mike. Stoked for you (and jealous at the same time ). Keep shredding hard and keep me posted. No snow around here…
