Looks like plenty of snow falling @Chondro. Can’t wait to get there, still got 6 weeks to wait myself. Love to see some pics if you get a chance, a bit of snow porn for those of us still in the southern hemisphere.

@Mizu Kuma & @LMB I read your suggestions on footwear and was thinking of getting something. I have a basic set of velcro apres boots but I thought the Yaktrax seem like a good option to have also.
I had a bit of a shop around and it seems there are a few different types but couldn’t find any in Australia. To get them before I leave I would have to buy on ebay. Do you know if this is something that could be purchased in Hirafu? Also, could you shed any light on which type/style of yaktrax would be best to get?

Absolutely.
You can get spikes in most shops.
Mostly this type:

They’ll likely be cheaper than eBay or a shop in Aus.  Maybe not, but you know volume turnover availability blah blah.

Here’s the choice.  Have them in your hand to put on as you get off the bus, or be as careful as possible until you get a chance to buy them.

Bearing in mind I wore them for the first time last year and in ten years I’ve only taken a couple of spills.  BUT I know of others who’ve totalled their holiday before it began, so it’s worth being cautious.

Cheapest ones you’ll get are from Co-op Supermarket (next door to the train station) in Kutchan!!!!! Similar to the ones posted by @LMB!!!!!

I bought my YakTrax years ago from an online pharmecutecal company in Oz!!!!! Sorry but can’t recall the name!!!!! ?

They also sell them at Rhythm on the Main Street of Hirafu, but like I mentioned if you go and get some supplies from Kutchan, they’ll be half the price!!!!! @Jonesy

* Just remember to take them off ya boots when you enter most establishments, as they don’t like you scuffin up their floors!!!!!

To everyone currently in Niseko, how has the snow been holding up? Starting to get a little nervous that it might not deliver when we’re there in Feb! I’ve been keeping track of the snowfall and doesn’t seem to have been a good start to Jan as far as snowfall goes. Only about 10cm since Jan 1 or something!

I’m only able to take one board down this year, and I’ve got a brand new Capita x Spring Break Powder Pill that I’ve been keeping aside just for this trip - my fingers are triple crossed right now that I’m going to get some powder!!

Not sure if they’ll cater for just 2, but worth a try????? http://www.yoniseko.com Yeah, it’s exxy, but worth it I reckon!!!!!

There’s also these guys that can deliver to your apt????? http://www.niseko-gourmet.com Sukiyaki by candlelight would be a winner I reckon!!!!!

Other than that, go to Lawson and grab some chicken and Japanese mayo, some fireworks from Kutchan, and a nice bottle of sake, dig a little seat somewhere with a view, and voila!!!!!
