Japan 2015/16
The way things are firing up in Hokkaido you will definitely be meters above!!
Yeah, it’s been pretty consistent for the last few weeks, but there’s always that warm spell they get in the middle!!!!!
Then hopefully it’s not a mirror image of early season straight after it!!!!!
I’m hungry for powder!!!!!
We didn’t have any huge snowfalls while we were there but just consistent falls that meant we got to ride powder most days. I think out 14 days there were 3 where we didn’t get to ride powder and that was only because we couldn’t be bothered leaving the resort on those days. At Rusutsu we got fresh powder in ride in-ride out trees at 1pm! Unreal!! And Kiroro had mountains of pow, you’re in it almost as soon as you’re off the chair. So much fun! The 20/20 was a delight too

Yeah, when it stays cold, that powder in Niseko just stays as fresh as it was the day it fell!!!!!
15cm and a bit of wind overnight, and it’s another deep day of fun fun fun!!!!!

What insurance do you Japan backcountry slashers take out? I know a lot want you to have guides for any type of cover outside of the piste.
World Nomad’s is looking fairly decent but thought I would ask any way.

They look decent just have to find out what the coverage is like for back-country. Most look like they are off-piste or backcountry but they will waive if you put yourself at risk, you are at risk in those conditions all the time.

Wondering if the JR East Pass makes more sense than buying individual train tickets for our upcoming trip?
Train usage should be limited to:
- From Tokyo Narita airport into Tokyo accom (Akasaka)
- A few trips around Tokyo on our day there
- Train from Tokyo to Myoko and return
- Train from Tokyo to Haneda Airport
What from I have read I think the Nagano - Myoko part of the trip is a different rail company and may not be covered?
Will Tokyo - Haneda be covered?
My general sense is that it probably does make sense - but I’m not sure where to find accurate individual prices to confirm this.

The East Pass is for JR (Japan Rail) owned infrastructure!!!!!
Whether or not the pass will be worth buying all depends on itinerary!!!!!

They legitimate, called them yesterday. They cover backcountry without a guide as long as you don’t go gnar and hit kickers or heli ski etc.
Glad I could help! Good to know the specifics of what they cover, I went with them as they specifically covered off piste but wasn’t sure to what extent.

The advice I was given was that unless you are going on more than 1 return trip on a shinkansen (e.g. more than the Tokyo-Nagano return that most people do) then it isn’t worth it. If you’ve got multiple shink trips then it does become worth it.

Hey, yeah we arrived yesterday afternoon as it was throwing it down. We hit Sugi today and they were reporting 40-60cm fresh. We smashed Super Giant, the black diamond, and experienced some chest-deep spots. Most of the other runs were calf-knee+ deep. It was simply awesome:
