I just booked my flights and will be heading back to Hakuba early Feb. I booked using qantas frequent flyer but flying Jetstar. It says allowed luggage is only 20kg on Jetstar but then says Frequent Flyer allowances are additional, check allowances. And then says 30kg for all qantas flights?
Has anyone used QFF points on Jetstar and know how much luggage you get?

im using points as well but flying Qantas. pointy end of plane home to!
not sure on allowance, I thought economy was pretty much 20kg for most airlines?

Most airlines are 23kg (Qantas etc).  While this doesn’t sound that much different from 20kg it can be a pain.

I flew Shitstar from Queenstown home to Melbourne in August (when they lost my luggage, *****) and had been away 2 weeks.  I’d flown into Wellington via Qantas for work and ended up using my points, getting the only flight home available with Qantas FF points - what can you do.

Anyway, long story short, I was 3kg over and had to do a last minute shuffle of gear between mine and a friend’s boardbag to get me within a bee’s dick of 20kg.  They would not budge at all.  They’re also getting pretty strict on how heavy your carry on is, trying to milk everyone for extra baggage.

I’m heading up to Japan in Feb and will be using FF points but there is a proper Qantas/non-Shitstar flight (QF61/62) via Brissy which gives you the full 23kg.  And food.  And booze.

Pretty sure Qantarse is 1 X 30KG!!!!!

JAL is 2 X 23KG!!!!! (As is ANA)

JerkStar, I dunno but I think you select that stuff at time of bookin yeah????? Cause they give options!!!!!

My personal experience this year was that the baggage peeps at the qantas check in here in oz where a whole lot more lenient on the baggage weights than their counterparts over in japan. Ive never seen so many people trying to repack bags to get them under weight. A girl in front of me to check in had an issue and from my evesdropping she was only 700grams over and the stern lady behind the counter wouldnt budge. Then getting onto the plane i saw quite a few peeps wearing their snowboard boots, a clever way to shed baggage weight.

Right you are,  Qantas is 30kg for international, 23kg is the domestic limit.

JAL = 46kg between 2 bags… but I don’t have 2 bags that’ll fit 23kg each lol

I’m flying JAL through to Vancouver.

I have just played around with a dummy booking.

I think you are only allowed 20kg’s the disclaimer mentioned above is that if you are of a certain status as a qantas frequent flyer (ie Platinum) you are entitled to additional baggage over and above the standard allocation.

You should be able to purchase additional kg’s in advance via the jetstar website via this link.

Does a JR EAST PASS 5 DAYS FLEXI – 268.00AUDPer person sound about right? Heading to Hakuba from 2/1 to 15/1. Or will it be cheaper just to just buy a way to hakuba and back on the days we need? :D

If that’s the only rail time you’re doin, it’d be heaps cheaper just to buy each way!!!!!

Is it?

Train travel in japan confuses me!

When you look on HyperDia its 8200Y one way…

Half of that is reserving a seat. Do we really need too?

Pretty sure we didn’t last time

So that’d be roughly $188AUD return!!!!! Current Exchange Rate!!!!!

Heaps cheaper than the Pass!!!!!

If you click on the drop down box on the “Fee” it’ll give you Reserved, Unreserved, Green Class, etc!!!!!

I think reserved on the Shinkansen is usually about ¥1000 extra from memory?????

Reserved is worth it if you’ve got all ya snow gear, I reckon!!!!! Heaps more room in the carriage!!!!! Especially around busier peak times!!!!!

Just checked, and reserved isn’t that much dearer!!!!!

Shinkansen Asama Feb Tokyo > Nagano!!!!!

Where di you see that? Where am I looking wrong?

Although not sure i want to reserve! What if we miss it?

When you click on the drop down box it gives the options!!!!!

You reserve the seat at the ticket counter at the station just before ya catch it!!!!!

Non reserved just means ya in a different carriage that has no allocated seat number!!!!! Sometimes these carriages can be chockers though!!!!! Out of Peak Times you’ll most likely be fine though!!!!!
