If you have any pics at 24mm, it would be good to see them, thanks.
Cheers again.

Thanks for those man. I really like the amount you seems to be able to fit in with not distortion. 12-24 just might be my next lense smile

btw I love the 24mm full size image at the bottom, don’t know how to explain it it’s just awesome.

thanks for the props.

remember that your lens goes down to 18mm, so you are able to take shots like that 24mm no problemo… it’s not like that lens is going to radically change your shooting

...BUT if you are going to keep at photography getting a 12-24 is a good investment. It’s a lens that you will keep for a long time.

Recently I’ve only been using the 50 to 70 range but not on snow. oops I forgot I shot 2 days with a 45mm F1.7 (too bad I didn’t load the film properly and ended just getting an unused roll developped - FAIL!)

On snow, if I’m shooting seriously then i use the 70-200. If I’m trying to ride too then I use the wide so I can stay close to the rider.

WOW!

That’s some set up snowforshow, you need to tell us about your monitors? I imagine you have some serious screen real-estate, a very big desk and decent office.

I’m on the other end of the real estate scale and am working toward fitting everything into a backpack with my car set up as a studio/office.

I’m switching the HVRV1U to a XHA1 soon, can’t wait!

Nice!

I upgraded the XL1s to the XHA1 2 year ago - lovely camera. But doesn’t play nice with Mac. It works but is temperamental.

Well…. My Firewire800>4port was DOA so haven’t tried it with the i7 macpro yet.

I’ve been on the market for professional file based video cameras, but damn they are dear!

Managed to get the XHA1 $2000 cheaper than rrp when I found a guy who brought a heap of stuff from OS. It was new with Canon warranty but didn’t have Aust wall plug - the transformer took the same generic lead as most printers use. Plus it uses the same batteries as the XL1s and lens diameter.

Always shop around if you have the time.

Well I might as well stick with the V1U which is now 2 years old use the 5D for video, for a few more months and get the Sony HXRNX5P which I could get cheaper than the XHA1 and don’t have to wait for video encoding and all those yucky DV’s.

Get one of those cheap $40 flashes off ebay for now, they do the job just like the $200 canon ones.

cupid stunt - super jelous of your setup

I’m currently running FCP 7 and AE CS4 on a duo core Macbook 13”. Needless to say editing HD footage on this is not enjoyable. I am upgrading to the new i5 27” iMac in a couple of weeks. Do you have any suggestions regarding this machine since youve been using it for a bit? particularly regarding hardware customization for maximum video editing performance? obviously the extra ram is preferable, anything else?

thanks alot

My plan is to upgrade my VERY outdated D70 to a camera that does HDvid. I don’t use the XHA1 much anyway and when I do, 90% of the time it is in SD mode.

Instead of the dual core 3.6ghz i5 core (default), get the i5 quad 2.8ghz instead - you’ll see that this is a worthwhile upgrade in the near future, when you advance to further multimedia work such as animations etc.
The 4GB should serve you well, but if you think that it is require upgrade to 6-8GB modules.
