That’s awesome Leasha, Perisher is great cause there is a massive crew and living in Jindy means you get an actual shopping centre and 4 different pubs to go party at.
Plus you’ll get to meet all of us when we come visit
All of it sounds amazing, getting this news is just what I needed I was in desperate need of a pick me up as the GF and I have broke up. So all I can do now is look towards the snow and the adventures it will bring me. Let’s hope the interview goes well and they want me on the team.
That sucks, hope you are ok.
If you want to look at the positives, it gives you the freedom to make friends and party hard while doing your snow season. And gives you the opportunity to do a season overseas at the end of the year if you so choose.
In this case, now I’d definitely be pro-Perisher. Big group of staff, cheaper accom in Jindy (get there a bit early and find a place on the notice board) You may need to share a room but that’s not a big deal as you’d likely have to do that at all the resorts.
Another option as well is to apply for the NZ resorts and go work there if you want to try something different. Queenstown is a great area with tons of things to do and plenty of accomodation options (as in you might be able to get a room to yourself)

Thanks TJ, I’ll get there in time it was 5 years but focusing on this will help me a lot I think.
You are right I will have the freedom to do whatever I want and if the funds are right I want to go and do a Canadian season at the end of the year. So I’ll be looking into how to go about that as well without going through a company, yeah I am going for Perisher over Buller.
I don’t mind living with a room mate i’ve never lived on my own anyway so i’d prefer that haha yeah as soon as I find out I have a job i’ll be getting right onto accommodation if I can’t live on the mountain.
I didn’t even think about NZ, I’ve been to Queenstown and it’s amazing I think I will also look into applying over there.
Don’t get too keen on accom. Feel free to wait until 2 weeks before the season if it’s non-staffies in Jindy. People don’t advertise early so as much as you want peace of mind, you’ll just end up paying more for a shittier place if you sort it out too early.
Another good one is to stay in a hotel / hostel for the first week or 2 and make some friends you’d actually like to move in with rather than jumping in with the first people to make an offer.
And all of this is also based on the person. I’m easy going and not a terrible housemate so I can jump in somewhere and blend in / not cause issues. Some people aren’t as easy to live with. (and you might not want to put up with their shit lol)

This is all very good info, haha yeah maybe not but at the same time i’m also easy going and easy to get along with.
My cousin worked at Perisher last season and he got into staff accom because he didn’t have a car he said most people who don’t have a car get given staff accom. So hopefully I am lucky and get to live on the mountain in staff accom which could be pretty fun I reckon
There is 2 types of staff accom… On hill and in Jindy. If you don’t have a car, you need to hitch or get a lift with friends lol.
Pssst, @leasha101, check it yo:

They’re starting to hire.
Thanks I’ll have a suss of that
Oh no leasha . Hope your alright! *hugs*
If you get perisher. Let me know - a good mate of mine is a doing another season.. He usually drives the bus between perisher and smiggins. And rents a house in jindy (I think he has already organized it too) so either he will have a spare room.. Or most likely know some one who might. And I can have a chat with him..
Also if you can get a room at his.. He drives.. Aaaand we crash on his floor/couch some weekends too!

Hey Holly, Yeah i’ll get there thanks
Oh really that sounds awesome, well as soon as I find out if I have a job or not i’ll let you know. I don’t have my interview until first week of April saah far away.
If I plan on doing a 2015/16 Canadian season when is the best time to start getting that together etc contacting the mountain.
Would it be around September/October?
Tj I know you went to sun peaks which is where I’m looking. Money wise what do you think I would be looking at?
Depends where you want to go and what you want to do. Sun Peaks is still a big mountain (2nd biggest in Canada) but they have had 2 seasons in a row of pretty bad weather (due to being one of the most north mountains). I have some time on the weekend so I might try to make a new Canada Megathread for people wanting to go over this year.
Depending what you want, there are cheap options like Manning Park which you get free Accom and lift pass included and still get a wage for working. Downfall is bad internet (again free though) and no mobile connections.
Sweet well i’ll suss out SP when it gets closer or maybe somewhere in Whistler, i’ll keep an eye out for your post sounds like it will be handy.
I don’t think I’ll travel too much before hand maybe leave like 3 weeks before I have to start work.
Thanks again for the help TJ
3 weeks is heaps, you can literally get everything done and get to Sun Peaks in a week prior to the season. Especially if you want to save cash.
Personally, I’d go with 2 nights in Vancouver, (optional) 2 night road trip to Seattle to buy any snow stuff you want and check out the city, 1 night back in Vancouver and then a 4 hour bus trip to Kamloops. Find a ride up the mountain and then 2-3 nights before you start training so you can move in and get ready etc. Definitely go meet the neighbours and stuff during this time.

That does sound like plenty of time, and how did you go about applying for work, I know you didn’t go with a program. So did you have a Skype interview?
Yeah a skype interview with Bowen (the Lifty manager). Told him how I wasn’t lazy and shit
Sun Peaks in an awesome resort but I’d throw your hat in other places too. After visiting Canada I wish I had of gone to a dozen other mountains as well!
