Great kit!
I’m loving YES.
And NOW binding are the shiz!
What a great start - quality right off the bat!
^ Leesha what did you end up getting? =)
BTW, thanx Jez for the explanation, I was a little like.. “wait… sintered was more expensive for me (Jones Aviator) and I needed to pretty much wax it after 1 day. LOL
Anyways, you’ll find most snowboards except high end using extruded, but you’ll find that sintered bases are coming into “lower end” boards. (eg, Capita’s Jess Kimura model now has a sintered base. )
Yeah my bad.
By thirsty I meant needing waxing often. I’ve found once I wax my sintered boards well, they hold it for a decent amount of time.
It’s off topic a bit, but d’ya reckon there’s variance in that even among sintered bases? Hubby’s Gentem seems to hold a wax longer than any of the others
The type of wax you use also have an effect for the durability (how long the wax stays on the base). But yes, there are variances among sintered bases. Yohan from underground tuning explained this to me and I can attest to it. My friend YES Basic 2012 (when they were still made by Nidecker) has one of the worst sintered bases. It gets dry so quickly and you can tell just from looking and touching it it’s a low quality base compared to other high end boards bases.

Yes, there are definitely different grades of sintered bases (you will often see numbers like “sintered 4000” etc.), and also different additives used to certain bases (to reduce friction and make the boards faster). As Rico also mentioned, the wax you use will play a noticeable part as well. I tend to only use high speed fluoro wax on my boards; it makes a lot of difference (fluorine is added to the wax; fluorine repels water). It’s more expensive but certainly justified.

I agree. I think Alysha will be super stoked with this setup!
Oh, Alysha, I forgot to mention… the board comes with a lifetime warranty. YES is the only brand in the business offering a lifetime warranty on all their boards. More on that here.

Yeah I’ve been hooked up with a really awesome package, can not wait to use it.
^ You’re telling me!
So which resort are you looking at working at? =)
I’m always looking for ppl to have a shred with.

All good, LMB! These days due to the level of that tech’s gone up it’s hard to tell what’s what, and nothing stays the same for long, if you know what mean. I guess it just means that R&D is doing the industry a TON of favors. =)
It just means people like you and me get confused from the old knowledge to new ways of doing things, such as what I said about the Jess Kimura Pro board, not that it was extruded previously, but they upgraded the sintered base if I’m correct.
LOL… all this tech stuff.
@TJswish, not sure about your lobster board, but i just checked the specs on my Bataleon fun.kink, and it’s actually a 2000 extruded base. Funny that it seems to get thirsty so much. LOL.

Agree on the flouro waxes. Most definitely.
But I’m interested in what you said about rub on wax for the extruded bases…might try that on the Endeavour - can’t be harder than getting a nice finish with hot wax! LOL
Grunge I have applied for everywhere, Falls, Hotham, Perisher, Buller and Thredbo . Hopefully one of them will pick me up as a lifty.
Yeah once I find out if I have a job I’ll let you guys know. Would be awesome to catch up, I’m sure you could teach me a thing or tw .
^ Yeah… fingers crossed.
And naah.. I suck at boarding.

Haha yep my fingres, toes and legs are crossed!
Can’t be any worse then me, I can get my self around and that’s about it. I really want to learn to do sharper turns this year . Went to Falls with a few friends last year and I was the only one who couldn’t go on tree runs
Ok, just catching up.
1. Congrats on the board Leasha. I think you’ll be stoked with a YES board. I love em.
2. Should get a response from at least one of them. If you’re in NSW, I’ll be at Perisher almost every 2nd weekend with Kim and Dan so we’ll have to grab a drink and go for a shred.
3. I think we are going to try and get the Shred to Hotham this year to accommodate for the Mexicans (Victorians) a bit better. So hopefully we can start planning that soon too so anyone there can totally come meet the crew .
4. Here is my board after only 3 days of riding. (the Shred last year)
^^^^
Holy cow!!!
That board!
