awwww i love it when Jeremy gets white girl wasted. shame we couldn’t come!
Seconded
There will be many more times im sure.
Just got announced that all staff drinks are $3 for the season at my work.
My liver weeps…
You boys been up lately? What are the conditions like?
Went up monday by myself for a bit up blackcomb. Was hell icey and hard. Lapped the park for a bit but didnt feel like eating it onto ice so i bailed then met up with Dyldo and rode Whis for a few runs but was much the same so called it a day.
Was going to go for some hot laps with the boys from work (Was going to have a king of the mountain style race from top to bottom but i was hungover so i bailed) but i wouldnt bother coming up until it snows buddy.
25 days until my North America adventure kicks off and all you guys and gals who are currently over there have been doing a great job of building my expectations (and I’m talking sites and food not even the mountain yet!)
Spewing I’ll miss out on the AST course I’ve been looking for an opportunity to get one of those under my belt.
While I’m here I’ll ask a couple of Canada/Whistler related questions as I finalise my planning.
NHL: Looking at the tickets available for the 10th having never been to a game before what kind of seats should I be looking at for the best experience (without blowing the budget) I’ve found a decently priced ticket in row 1 right down on the glass (blue line) which initially sounded fantastic being close to the action but I then read you might not be able to see much if the pucks not right in that area. On the flip side I can get something more up in the nose bleeds but still looking side on. That would obviously be better to see the whole game (not that I’m going to understand any tactical build up) but will I lose too much atmosphere?
Vancouver: I’m planning on spending the Saturday of the NHL game being a tourist in Vancouver. I liked some of the stuff Jez, Dyldo and Deano were putting up pre season on social media. In a day what do you guys rate as must sees?
Snowmobiling/Other Whistler non snowboarding activities: At the risk of being banned from boardworld if I get the itch to break up the snowboarding with some other Whistler or surrounding areas based activities what would you lot suggest? I recall Jez putting up photos from a snowmobiling tour a year or so ago which I’m definitely short listing. I’d love to go on some scenic walks/hikes but understand in the middle of Winter this may not be feasible.
Looking forward to catching up with old and new friends!
mate as for NHL seats - Anything on the blue line is awesome. I’ve never sat on the boards (row 1-5) but i hear its amazing, you can hear everything the players say and see them smash each other. If you’ve never seen a NHL game before you might struggle to follow the play - this is where i like sitting in the lower bowl or the front rows of the upper bowl. you can see the plays develop and it gives you a good feel of the game. either way id say you’ll have a cracking time -if the row 1 seat isn’t costing you your left nut (upwards of $300) then i’d for sure take that. we paid $130 to be centre line upper bowl row 8 for example.

Hey, I can’t answer anything about Vancouver, because I know next to nothing about the city, to be honest.
However, I know you said ‘non snowboarding activities’, but we should try and put together a Boardworld backcountry freeride day. If we have a group of 8, we can go out with a guide (splitting/ski touring) and get some really awesome lines. One of the best places to go in this area is actually up Duffy Lake road, around Joffre Lakes. Further away from people/crowds and is true backcountry. I am TOTALLY in for this!
:-D
^^ I would be in for this 100%

Snowmobiling is awesome, but the guides don’t get paid that much - so if you do go, and you enjoy it/the guide is awesome - tip them, too!
Conditions-wise, I went up this morning Jeremy! I rode with Dan, a good friend of ours Jas (who charges) and my new friend Ashley, whose first day was today. You can ride out to the village from Whistler side, and the snow down the bottom was awesome! Still some icy/very firm/hardpacked sections up top, so it can be a bit dicey.
We’re expecting some great precipitation over the next few days and this weekend could be good, or at the least ‘decent’. I’ve driven 2.5 hours from Canberra to Perisher for worse conditions…if I were you, I’d probs still come up. That said, I think Mon/Tues is looking pretty good right now.
I’ll put up an updated blog on the shred today, later. Such fun times today!! Smiles abound!

Thanks mate appreciate the advice. I’ll need to check as it was a while ago but the best prices I could find for row 1 was something like $200 up in the nosebleeds was $100ish. Of course there’s $5k+ seats scattered in there as well! Are you saying as I won’t be able to follow the game (not knowing the rules etc) I’m better off close the the action so I at least get a feel of the game or up high so I can see everything no matter where the puck is?

Thanks mate, not long now!
Anyone who’s been up lately, are there any small jumps made (blackcomb or whis) in the park?

Hey Skip, Blackcomb park has a decent set up in their park. Some moderate sized jumps (guessing 25ft-30ft ish??), a fun hip (you can go as big as you like, essentially) and some boxes and down railes/kinked rails.
There is a small ‘jump’ at the beginning of the park, to skiers left. However, I found it awkward to hit because the run in crossed over another run in for people who were hitting a rail, so it was a strange entry, but you can probably get 5ft of air if you straight line it. The first box on the skiers right is essentially ride-on, but I think the others are pretty much ollie on.
I hope that helps!
Thanks lulu. I won’t be hitting any 25-30ft jump anytime soon haha. The biggest jump I’ve hit is that first medium jump at the start of the Nintendo park last spring. It’s a small and only medium jump that I’ve dared to hit haha (maybe like 20ft max? probably around 15ft).
Right on. Well yeah, not a lot of options then yet, unfortunately!
You know, I have a bit of a soft spot for the good ole’ TG. I like the mellow run to get there (so much fun for practicing butters and there’s some good little natural features for practicing spins, etc.), and the jumps are a good size to do things on. The larger size jumps (for me), I only feel comfortable with straight airs. Gimme a nice 25ft and I love to work on my 3’s and trying to get my grabs under control!
