haha, just used my powers of cyber stalking to confirm.
its funny I saw your photos and thought “man I think I have seen these exact photos before…”
Haha small world!
While we were in Malaysia Cheyne and my other friend Anthony were both telling me they had friends who snowboarded. Turns out you’re both on here What’s the chances?
Umm fairly high I guess
Haha yeah, Anth sent me a random message on fb asking if I posted on here.
excelent, good to see we have a number of people who will go snowboarding, and watch F1!
Horrible end to the Japanese grand prix. Red flagged due to accident involving Jules bianchi and a tractor. He’s unconscious and being taken to hospital. Fingers crossed he pulls through ok. Sounded pretty bad :(
And a tractor??? What the? How did that happen?
Wet race. Adrian Sutil went off the track at a corner and hit the barrier, the tractor crane came out to remove his car and Jules bianchi came off at the same corner and went under the tractor. Really really unlucky and unfortunate incident. They couldn’t airlift him to hospital because of the impending typhoon so had to go by road. About 30 mins after the accident he was still unconscious and no news since :(
Pretty horrific
Yeah, we were watching the race at work, and questioning why they hadn’t brought out the safety car, when the tractor was out. Especially in those conditions.
Apparently Massa had been calling over the radio to have the race called a few laps before Sutil had gone off as well…
I cant remember who it was, but earlier this season one of the drivers had spun, and was stopped on the track requiring marshals to push it off, and no safety car was called then either.
Personally I think the saftey car should have been out, given the weather, and the tractor being right where a car had just come off.
Theres mixed reports on his condition, but it was said that he went into 3hrs of brain surgery. Last confirmed news was he was still on life support.
Really hope he makes a full recovery.
You can see here how nasty it really was…
Yeah it was a really bad accident to end a surprisingly enjoyable race.
Having seen the footage he’s absorbed an enormous amount of energy and with the angle he hit the tractor (and the way it got thrown into the air) it’s a real credit to the strength of the cockpit and drivers helmet. The timing was freakishly unlucky a second earlier and the tractor wouldn’t have reversed that far.
I agree that as soon as heavy machinery is anywhere near the track that the safety car should have been out (the drivers really aren’t slowing down much during yellows) but on the flip side I thought the safety car was kept out for a ridiculously long time at the start of the race to the point where they were swapping to inters as soon as it went in, what’s the point of having wets?!
They put up a link to the video in The Age. No wonder his injuries were so serious, what a horrific crash
it was a horrible crash and its really tragic for Bianchi and his loved ones, But you cannot stop all accidents always. F1 is a dangerous sport! and these were dangerous conditions!
its all well and good for me to sit back here and say “the safety car should have been out” (which I did) but it is what it is: a horrible accident. there are so many rules in place for the safety of the drivers, and the marshals and officials did what they could do. there is no use pointing fingers now. if they had called the race a lap earlier we would complain for not letting them finish.

Totally agree. All the drivers were saying yes the conditions were bad, but they weren’t the worst they have raced in and certainly no worse than most wet races (bar the start). There was nothing out of the ordinary in how they handled the race/recovery of Sutils car/yellow flags, it was just a really really unlucky freak accident.Sadly the prognosis for Bianchi doesn’t sound good at all. My heart goes out to him, his friends and family and all the other drivers and teams. I would hope/expect that they will have some sort of tribute to him at Sochi this weekend for the Russian grand prix. I dare say it will be a fairly sombre race.
Looks like Jules is out of his assisted coma, and has been moved back home to France.
Hes still unconscious, but breathing on his own.
