Board advice for Japow

Avatar

Find her a used Fish/Fishcuit if you can, I guarantee she will love it in pow and at the same time make it easier for her to learn how to ride deep pow. I know lots of people here love twin/twinish deck, but for pure pow especially beginners I highly highly recommend the fish.

^ + 1 on this definitely.
I rode my first pow on a twin rockered board and it was very hard work especially on my rear leg, So much burn on my thighs.
There rocker helps a bit but having a pow board in a swallow/fish tail definitely helps.
Failing that having rockered or a directional board does help too.

@grunge: I’m like you grunge, the very first time I rode deep pow was at Whistler with a twin C2 board. Kept sinking and having to dig my way back to the groomed runs. I rode my fish the first time last season on a 49cm day, I can’t believe how easy it is to ride in the deep stuff. I can even go to the low angle stuff without worrying haha.

considering how little pow there is in Aus, that sounds pretty sensible, unless you can find a cheap pow board to buy, I’d hire one for sure. Japan is pretty cheap for hire gear and it seems to be good quality stuff. I went to Hakuba in january, and hired a board and I was very happy with it.

hiring also makes the trip more convenient, as you don’t need to carry your board around when off the mountain.

Just lookin at Rythm’s board hire prices, and you’ll pay ~$380 for 10 Days!!!!!

That’s a fair chunk of a new board!!!!!

Especially last years models, if ya can find one?????

And you never know, you’ll either wanna return, or even go to Canada/US/Wherever, after you get a real powder fix in Japan!!!!!

Oh, and carryin boards around Japan is so damn easy, so I wouldn’t even factor that part in as a consideration!!!!!
