Australia is considered zone 3 with Cathay (zone 1 only applies to within Australia flights), so it’d be zone 3 to zone 1 to zone 2. You’d be looking at a minimum $30/kg.

I was looking into it because we’re flying Cathay to Europe and taking our boards etc. and it’d cost us $60/kg if we went over! Definitely going to be packing light!!

Well!  Their online chat help doesnt do much help then!
Either way, same person told me I cant buy for extra baggage, I just have to pay for it on the day!  SURPRISE! haha

Just got a quote back for accom.
In Hirafu village.
Rates for single bed in a dorm room:
For 12 nights from 30 January to 11 February would be $980 AUD.
For 7 nights from 21 February to 28 February would be $571 AUD.

Seem right?  Breaky included every morning, 7min walk from the lifts and 2min walk to the main street.
This is the with the guys at MintTours.  I’ll be doing a Back Country tour with them while im there.

Baggage aside, I reckon Cathay Pacific are one of the best to fly with. Service is fantastic, in-flight entertainment is always good and the foods alright! Plus Hong Kong is an awesome place for a stop over.

Lodge Moorea Pension Popcorn

I’ll be staying at Lodge Moorea to start with, then when go with Mint Tours, i’ll be staying at Pension Popcorn.

So when the camps over, I go back to Lodge Moorea.

This computers being a weirdo and I cant seem to open paint to be able to copy and paste. haha

Its looking to me tho, I’ll be right in the middle of the village. Pension Popcorn is just out of town by the looks of things.
But thats when im this Tour, and will have a private bus taking us places

Ahhhhh, Morea and Popcorn are Lodges that have been operatin for a long time!!!!!

Popcorn is in Izumikyo 2 which is just down the road from Hirafu Village, and is definitly an easy walk unless ya shit faced or its pukin big time!!!!! Just don’t walk it alone if ya been drinkin, as ya run the risk of not bein found until the spring melt!!!!!

You’ll meet heaps of other crew at both of those places, as they’re Pensions!!!!! Just hard to store ya own drinks if they don’t do fridges in there!!!!!

You’ll spend a bit of time cruisin up to Lawsons Convenience Store for sure!!!!! It’s the Bomb!!!!!

I stayed at pension popcorn last year

I hear pop has sold up and isnt there anymore which is a bugger, hes a great guy.

The pension is easy walking distance from the pub, but get the bus with all your gear in the mornings if you can.
The bus stops out the front to go to hanazono too which is good but its really bugger all to walk to the hirafu lifts/gondola if you can be bothered

Vividly recall hubby dragging his mate by the ankle while he made snow angels all the way to the lower village to ensure he got home safe before trudging back up to the upper village to put himself to bed.

Look after your mates.
And if you’re gonna have a big one try and do it within sight of your accommodation, or in it!

Yep, this is the second biggest thing that scares me in Niseko, after avalanches and cracks! Eeek
Be safe out there kids! X

For my kids:
1. Drinking and getting home safely.
2. Drinking and getting home safely.
3. Drinking and getting home safely.
4. Drinking and getting home safely.
5. Not wearing their helmets and coming unstuck…

For me:
1. Idiots taking me out from behind (because it’s happened)
2. Glide Cracks
3. Slipping over walking on ice and doing a serious injury.
4. Breaking my arm again (weakness)
5. Getting buried - Avie or just falling over in nipple deep.

Just in regards to falling over in deep snow (or being caught in a tree well) — other than staying calm and waiting for rescue, one of the best things you can do is carry an easily accessible safety whistle. Using a whistle to call for help saves a lot of energy and can be heard over much greater distances, considerably increasing your chances of rescue. It only costs a few dollars and is small enough to ride with.

Good reminder.
Not like there’s a shortage of whistles in this house! (Referees)
Cheap insurance!

It’s a good idea to get the pea-less safety whistles which are designed to work in all conditions regardless of temperature (they don’t freeze up). I am going to get these in stock for 2015 as I feel it’s a very important item for snowboarders to have.
