there’s kindle sitting on my shelf. haven’t touched it since I got the iPad. Can use all the apps on there, kindle, ibooks etc, as well as multiple magazine apps. Different apps have different controls, some let you scroll pages instead of turning pages, good for reading in bed, and have multiple brightness levels, night, day etc. Having the different apps means you can search for the book at a cheaper price. for example, just read the Rosie Effect, $17.99 on ibooks, $9 in Amazon (kindle). But the garlic book was much cheaper in ibooks…..
Anyway, I love the iPad for reading. I take it camping with no electricity , can read for a full couple of days in airplane mode. smile

I love usin my iPad!!!!!

The old Mac only gets opened on the rare occasion these days, cause ya can pretty much do everythin on a tablet!!!!!

But an e-reader is less strain on the eyes, and the battery lasts weeks/months. I’ve tried using Michelle’s iPad for reading at night and it’s super bright and harsh on the eyes. That’s the reason I bought e-reader anyway. raspberry

I only use it when the tablet is flat or on planes. No reason to use the tablets battery on the plane when it is better for other uses.

Can’t remember the last time i paid for a book!

I have it but the actual kindle lasts months on one charge vs my tablet with watching movies will barely last the plane ride to the US

Backlit lighting can never compare to none no matter how much you adjust it!

Only really comes into play if ya outside in the sun, or away from a power source for hours?????

Other than that, iPads Retna Displays are pretty good at customisation!!!!!

Even Kindle’s latest reader uses an LCD!!!!!

what about the night setting? it’s black with white writing and very dull. Well it doesn’t keep Azz awake… wink
It’s not as long lasting battery as the kindle, but it’s WAY more versatile. Want a Snowboarding mag/...right there. want to write in your diary? right there…. WAY more versatile. Suppose I’m a female though, so maybe more talented at multi tasking? LOL joking

I never knew about that feature. It’s hard to pry the iPad away from Michelle for long enough, haha.

I know tablets are very versatile, but I travel everywhere with my laptop. I wanted a super basic and small e-reader for reading only (I’m easily distracted) and travel, which is why I only got the Kobo Aura. I could have stepped up to one of their HD tablets, but it’s not what I wanted. Different strokes for different folks. wink

I’ve thought about an e-reader a few times, but when I finish reading a book I like to put it on my book shelf for posterity. For that reason I never borrow books off friends or family. If someone has a good book they recommend I’ll go and buy it.

Although I used to be the same with Blu-rays and now I have a NAS at home I realise how much money I wasted.  LOL

A book I just started reading last night is A fortunate Life, by A.B. Facey. A very simply written book, but hard to put down.

Tills I was exactly the same.

my kindle was supposed to replace the ‘3 for $10’ easily consumed books i bought all the time and threw way.

It was never supposed to replace the Jodi Picoult books and my other amazing authors which I love.

I just noticed that a few of my fav authors have books out I didn’t know about it as it has been so long since i stepped into a book store!

The couple of times I have read a real book my arms get sore LOL

(must upload a pick of my book shelf)

I love my books, wish more of them had suvived storage (water damage, comic books thankfully survived) I like the feel, which is why my Kindle has a bad-ass cover, cause I can go through books like nobody’s business when I’m in a readin mood!

When the bookshelf overtakes the house, there’s a problem. I hate getting rid of books…. always seem to want it again a few years later. i have the first book that I ever read, age nappies, a fair swag of my kids books, first chapter books, .... at least now that the bookshelf is well and truly full, as is the shed and the next shed, and the next, unless I REALLY love it, it’s an e-book. Some just don’t translate so well though, especially double page photos in coffee table books.

The first cookbook I bought as an adult “Australia the Beautiful Cookbook” pretty sure Reader’s Digest, had it for many years and never it disappeared somewhere in my many moves. MIL came over the other day with book for me. Same book! Not my copy, because I had written inside it.

What I’m reading now,
“This Changes Everything -Capitalism v The Climate”
Interesting read. big surprise
