Total change of topic…
My boss is going to Whistler for the first time in Feb.
Can anyone advise on some off mountain must see’s?
Nice restaurants etc - place you might take your parents or Mrs Mizu?
I have already suggested, snowmobiling and first tracks breakfast and Scandi Spa.
Araxi is a really nice place for an upmarket feed!!!!!
Earls (recommended by Jez) had great steak and ribs in a more upmarket style, but still a booth style steakhouse atmosphere none the same!!!!!
Somethin that might be a goer is the Sleigh Ride (or Snowmobile) up to Crystal for a Fondue????? (Be pretty nice on a clear still night I reckon) Although not the classiest of joints!!!!!
And dessert down at the French Crepery opposite Splitz at the bottom of the village, is soooo damn good!!!!! They also do a nice breakfast too!!!!!
Dog Sledding and Zip Line Trekking might be a goer for off mountain activities too?????
Definitely a night out at the Ice Hockey in Van though!!!!! Great atmosphere!!!!!
Even a Heli ride around the ranges and lakes would be pretty damn cool!!!!!
There’s also a place to go see the largest population of Bald Eagles!!!!! ( but Jez scared them all away on the day we went, plus we were in a rush to get into Van to watch the hockey!!!!!)
Thanks Mizu!

My favourite restaurants:
Splitz Grill — Fast food but a Whistler staple.
Sushi Village — Quality Japanese restaurant. One of our favourites. Order a “dumbo” hot sake, haha!
Mongolie Grill — We love this place. Pick your ingredients and watch it get cooked.
Earls — Good food and hot waitresses haha.
You haven’t done Whistler until you’ve had après at Crystal Lounge. Get in early, get a table, jugs of beer, chicken wings, and watch a hockey game…
Phones
Was with Koodo last season and had no issues. $40/month for 200 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb data ($5 for extra 250mb packets) and 5c/min international calls.
Prior
They were doing $200 locals discounts last year, a mate picked up a split khyber and I was already looking forward to placing my own order in the next few weeks!
Restaurants
I agree, Earls do an excellent job of hiring hot waitresses!
21 Steps had australian lamb chops on the menu which were incredible after 3 months away form home, also have bison steak for something different
20c wings at crystal lounge at the right times
Tapleys has Buck Hunter!
Free pool at CBB (inside the Hilton)
I also appreciate the non snow based whistler activity lists as I’m a little concerned I may have overdone the days booked in Whistler for my upcoming trip. Reminds me I should probably look into those NHL tickets again. Would love to hit up some backcountry snowmobile as well.
Pretty bummed to hear you won’t be Whistler based Jez I was pretty excited about the plans we made at the shred. Hopefully still plenty of opportunities to catch up.
My flight from Washington to Vancouver seems to be getting changed a couple of times a week at the moment (not for the better) so I’m completely at their mercy. Seeing as Jez’s generous offer might not be an option now I might need to call upon a backup option to get me to Whistler (happy to pay, take you on a romantic date etc)
There was a tiny little (some might say intimate) lounge at the bottom of Blackcomb, that I went to on my last night.
Anyone know what it might have been called?

All good here, mate. I’ll make sure I’m there a bunch when you’re in town. We might even just stay there. What dates will you be in Whistler again?
Don’t worry about the ride to Whistler. I have a car and I’ll make sure I get you there. All the more reason for me to go to Whistler and shred.

That’s great to hear mate, I know I’m going to have a blast in Whistler either way but it’s going to be a completely different experience to my usual Japow trips having a bunch of boardworlders there. I just loved the excitement you and Michelle had when describing all the great things you had lined up for a first timer.
Appreciate you still offering the ride mate mate it was already generous of you when you were going to be based in Whistler let alone Vancouver. I’ll still take you up on it while the offer is there but absolutely understand if it’s no longer feasible so please don’t feel obliged just let me know if that’s the case and I’m sure I’ll work something out.
At this stage (though the flight will change 20 more times before I leave) I will be arriving at YVR at 8pm on the 7th of January and will be leaving on the 17th. Planning on heading to Vancouver for the day on Saturday the 10th and catching the Canucks game at night.
No problem, mate. We’ll work it out. Shouldn’t be an issue.

You’re a good egg!
While I’m being a demanding princess if the loan board/bindings are still on offer that would be great along with at least a foot of POW each day
10 days in Whistler won’t be over doin it, Dave!!!!!
You wait till ya see the joint!!!!!
Haha, funny you ask…
Just today, Michelle made me unpack all my crap that was in storage and sort it out. I actually put your bindings aside and told Michelle they were for you. So your board and bindings will be here ready for you when you get here. I might just make you scrape the storage wax off haha.

Haha I bet it’s going to blow my mind! I’m just feeling a bit guilty as I didn’t really allow enough time in some of the other places in the USA so had to sacrifice some things I wanted to do. I’m starting to find I’m enjoying exploring and getting as many different experiences in as possible rather than non stop snowboarding. Having said that with the great bunch of guys/gals that are going to be over there I’m imagining the shredding will be rather fun!

Haha you’re sounding mighty organised over there mate most appreciated.
Sure thing I’m happy to scrape, I won’t have any excuses when I struggle to keep up though!
I’m not organised by choice!
