I know there are a lot of rooms that are already taken by returning staff along with a lot of the new overseas workers who obtained their job through the recruitment programs out there that WB use. Many of these wouldn’t be occupied just yet though as a lot of those people are yet to arrive or are currently leasing elsewhere until the end of the month. Can’t comment as to whether they have any spots reserved for those yet to be hired through the local job fairs though.
Just got off the phone with them and didn’t get very good news. He did not recommend traveling there just for the interview since there’s obviously no guarantee it would result in a job. This may just be their general advice so people don’t get angry if they end up wasting money. I am still considering this option…
He said staff housing is currently full, and there are not any rooms that have been kept open for staff hired in the future. It all comes down to the waitlist although I forgot to ask how they draw from the waitlist (first come,first serve?)

I don’t think its first come, first serve. I know people who were put on the waitlist before me and still haven’t got a spot, yet I have.
I think it’s basically pick and choose who they like, based on the job you get and what the interviewer had to say about you

I’m heading up to Whistler in a couple of weeks, scored myself a job with the mountain and staff accom! 
My travel insurance has expired and I’m just wondering if anyone has any tips on what company to go with? A lot of companies don’t seem to offer travel insurance if you’re already overseas.

Heliboarding for this season who would be keen? Half price with Whistler heliskiing for groups of 10 min of 5 must be WB staff.
Not sure of when or price but I think it must be done before February. I want to book as soon as the deal opens..
Anybody have suggestions about short term accommodation that is trustworthy to arrange while not being in Whistler? I wont’t know anyone in town to crash with so I’m thinking of booking a bed at the fireside lodge (hostel) that has good reviews. 25CAD per night. Unfortunately I’m arriving in the middle of November so I’m unsure how long to book since whatever longer term place I find probably won’t be available until the beginning of December

I’ve seen quite a few short term rentals pop up as people go away for a few weeks on vacation or whatever. I think this would be your best best for cost effective short term rentals.
Do you have your dates correct? You said you are arriving mid November but you want long term accommodation from the start of November? I assume you meant December?
My advice would be to focus on your long term accommodation now and chase up as many leads as possible, even if you need to take a lease from Nov 1. The rental market is ridiculously tight right now and a lot of people are struggling to find a place for the winter, myself included.

I’ve been regularly scanning a few sites for long term and would definitely be willing to start a Nov. lease if I found the right place. I’m just skeptical of signing for a place site unseen and figure I might be better off waiting until I’m in town, even though I know it’ll be tough work
Yeah, I agree it’s probably the best course of action, but you have to be prepared to hustle. There’s limited options at the moment.

No job lined up either.. I have a work permit obviously and have done tons of research so I’m not coming in blind thinking it’s going to be easy, but other than that, the only good news is that I have plenty of money saved to last me a while. But I’m cheap and would rather dip as little into savings as I need to haha
