Whistler 2014-15 House Hunt Thread

Avatar

Hey guys,

How’s your Whistler house hunt going? Have you signed a lease yet? Do you have a place to stay? Do you have any leads? Looking for anyone to fill a room? Still looking? What are you looking for?

Let’s use this thread to keep everyone posted on your situation. Maybe we know people who can help you out. Likewise, if you hear of anything that might help someone else, please post it here.

It seems like a really tough year, actually. Not much available and the prices are super high.

Michelle and I are still currently looking. We have a couple of leads which we are following up. Ideally we are looking for a 1 bedroom. We are also open to staying in a small house, i.e., not many people staying there.

Keep us posted. Good luck. Happy hunting!

Hey guys and gals

I was in the dire situation trying to find a house for a while, but I have been lucky enough to score a spot in staff housing
Yes the housing situation here is shithouse at the moment, but there are still good opportunities popping up, keep an eye out an I’m sure something for you will come along.

Found this on craigslist for you Jez:

Wizey, that’s weekly pricing!

$525/week double

So that’s more than I pay here in Sydney for a 2 bedder. ($2000+ a month for a 1 bedder is insane when you’re earning $10 an hour.

Thanks mate. Wow, super expensive though. Out of our budget unfortunately. The places we’ve been looking at are anywhere from $950/month (1 year lease) to $1400/month. At this point I’d be happy to pay up to about $1500/month for the right place. We are checking a few out on Thursday.

What are you guys all looking for? What’s your budget? If we don’t take the 1 bedroom in Emerald, it will be available (currently not being advertised). We checked it out and it’s a decent place, awesome landlord. Anyone keen?

Yeh we would be interested if it falls through.

We are looking for a small share house (Like another 2/3/4 people. Not that keen on a massive party house type thing).

As for $$$. Most i comfortably want to spend is $1400/month for both of us. Rather less but the prices are stupid…

No worries. We have a few leads right now. Just need to wait until we are in Whistler on Thursday. I’ll pass on anything we don’t take. We are also open to a small, quiet house, so let me know if you guys find a 2-bedroom or something. I guess I’m happy living with 3 women. wink

Been paying attention to fair few posts and what not, looks like its going to be a bloody busy season up there. Going to start spamming a few groups and ads today I think as would probably rather not end up sleeping on the streets for my first season.

Going to want to be relatively close to the action and not pay anything ridiculous so happy to share rooms to keep costs down. If anyone else is trying to get people for a house I’d definitely be interested.

you guys should get into the whistler winter 14/15 Facebook group if you’re not. I saw a 1bedroom place get posted for $1200 today recently renovated etc etc.

Ye I didn’t factor in the lack of wages haha. The missus wants to do a season somewhere, probably Canada, so I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread just to work out rough costs. Housing is EXTORTIONATE it seems!

yeh saw that, also not furnished so have to factor in $$$ for a bed etc.

It isn’t that expensive to furnish a place if you’re not too picky. Can go to the re-build it centre in Function Junction and you can pick up all the basics to fit out a place pretty cheaply.

Not sure if this is the right section to put this is but seeing as my body clock is still running in non daylight savings time it will do until the mods move it elsewhere, ANYHOW some of you un-employed snow bums in whistler might be interested in this

Please note that this is Whistler. Sun Peaks the average cost was more like $800-1000 a month for a 1 bedder and $1200-1500 for a 2 bedder.

Staff accom was $475 per person for a single room (4 single rooms in a house). All on the mountain.

I’m sure off the mountain resorts like Revelstoke, Fernie and Whitewater would be even cheaper…
